six port motor

Since all N/A motor in all the RX-7 have been 6 ports and the renesis is. Do you guys think you could get a renesis block and connect the parts of the intake on older motors and still run with mods done to it.

I only asking because some guys wont be able to get a new RX8 even though we want one real bad. But might be able to swing 5 grand to get a renesis block to put in are older rx7 and make work. There is a big diffence in 30,000 and 5,000 dollars. That RX8 is great.

dude, with $5 000 you might be able to get a crate (ie, completely built as-it-comes-in-the-RX-8) motor in a year or something... the bell housing mounting points are the same as they've always been, although the stock motor mounts in an RX-7 (either FC or FD) wouldn't fit (too high), so you'd need modification there... but it'd sure fit, and it sure would connect... you'd just have to check into upgrading driveline components to make sure that they can safely operate at +9k rpm, and you'd need to make up a completely different exhaust, but that's not too hard... trust me, you'd MUCH rather buy the motor built (which you will be, later) and plunk it down in and RX-7 than to have to build it all yourself with mismatching parts.

Do you think Mazda will really sell crate motors, make the other stuff needed so you can put the renesis motor in older Rx7's? I sure hope they will.

well, i dunno about making parts to put a RENESIS in an old RX-7 (that'll be left up to the DIYer's), but yeah, they'll be selling crate motors for sure... how soon, i have no idea. by next year maybe??

I doubt they Mazda proper will make retro-kits.

As far as using peripheral items from previous rotaries, remember how much you have to swap in/out to put say a series5 Turbo II engine into an FB, or an NA FC for that matter. You'll need quite a bit of knowledge, scratchbuilding, and even trial and error experimentation to get it done.

I'm not saying that it's not possible, I'm saying it won't be a bolt-on experience (I don't know if you were expecting it to be or not).

Yaw power got themselves a crate motor, but from where? Maybe a wrecked J-spec? Mazda usa?

Until someone gets there hands on a renesis intake gasket to compare the opening location and sizes we won't know on swapping. Or at least how easy the swap will. The earlier rotaries people have pretty much figured out how to swap everything around. This new engine has a completely different engine mounting setup than anythign previous. Not impossible but there isnt anyone right now to tell you how to do it.

BTW- not all rx-7 NA motors were 6 ports. all US 79-83's were 4 ports and most 84-85's were 4 ports. Only the GSL-SE was a 6 port motor in 84-85.

I would expect them to have gotten special consideration. The way Mazda dealt with the Protege' motor program in Speed Touring, and the way that that said they would deal with the RX8 program, they will offer great support to the effort. Most of us will not be able to get an engine like that for a while now.

All NA FC's are 6 ports

the engine was redesigned slightly mid model run. major change was the intake manifold.

86-88 are one version and 89-91 an other

Thanks!

By the way, wasn't it easier to just say that all 12A's were 4-ports and all NA 13B's were 6-ports?

Almost :D

Pre RX-7 13B's were NA 4 ports & the 12A was available in non US markets as a 6 port. The 12A 6 port was actually the first mazda 6 port engine. I think that came out in 82.

Basically, the NAs are 6-port, and the Turbo IIs are 4 port.
