What year? Has your engine been replaced yet? If you engine hasn't been replaced yet go have a compression check done and have them do a full inspection of all your car's engine components. I would be weary of putting a turbo on a 70k engine that wasn't replaced, unless its' an 06. But an 06 with 70k miles seems unlikely.

get a compression test, if passes, go for it

might as well enjoy the car while you have it, and turbo is going to raise the fun factor immensely

if your engine is healthy (compression).. there is absolutely NO reason why you shouldn't if you can..

DO NOT CHEAP OUT though.

usually people lower the compression in their engine before boosting.

i have a question, my rx8 was recently dynoed i have an 04 grand touring 6spd, and i got chassis dynoed by a dyna pack protable one, (yes i know they are not that accurate[/i]) but, i lost a significant amount of power. I saw online on my fone at myrotarycar.com stock was running 178.4 hp, and 134.4 torque. My numbers were quite dismal with 148 hp to 128 torque. There is oil in my intake filter, but when i took out my intake filter i was still running consistant numbers. I was told to get a compression check done, but i was told it is probably not the case, i was also told that my CAT's could be bad and are impeding flow into my exhaust so i might need a whole new cat and a catback, but i am still not able to figure out how oil is going into my intake. Can anybody help me out? Tips? Advice? I ran synthetic in my car but i called up a mazda dealership nearby and they said "run regular oil, its a rotary, just run normal 5w-20" and i told them that one of their techs told me that i could run my car on regular but the guy at the dyno said just run premium, and that I'll get better curves and it'll unclog my injectors. Heres the low down on my car.

2004 Mazda RX8 6MT
stock, except for clutchmasters FX100 clutch.
Regular gas, and synthetic (which i plan on changing to regular)

Can having bad coils, plugs, and wires cause an engine's compression test to read less than if the parts were brand new?

No, because when doing the test, you remove the spark plugs deleting the whole plug/wire/coils from the equation.

I see... so doing a compression test before buying new plugs, wires, and coils, would be the smartest way to do it, depending on how much you're getting charged for it.

my car as 65k approx and i put in stock plugs less than a year ago, (i think stocks are NGK) and yea i did turn off my trac/dsc and what is bgk44? i had my cats checked and my intake manifold, and everything checked out fine by my dealer techs but i am taking it to mazda still. i was told from another post that my intake air flow might need a clean up, and the blowback is from an oil hose connected to the intake and that i should get an oil can catch. anybody know about those?
