I just purchased an 05 rx8 with 93k miles on it and want to seafoam it. I noticed with every other car, you let the engine run then suck up the seafoam using the vacuum hose... Easy peasy. But the very few tutorials with the rx8 shows that you need to dettach some sensors and crank the seafoam in without running it first. My question is, can I do it the traditional way, or will I **** up my rotary? Anyone else do it the traditional way? I tried to remove the ess sensor but it was Damn near impossible to reach since the car has a typhoon intake installed and is kind of in the way and hard to remove.

Short answer is: There are many ways of doing the procedure. Each method typically would have a different effect on the engine. Some will tell you that seafoaming does nothing. Some will swear by it. If the DIYs you already read aren't clear enough, you aren't going to get much clearer by asking, because you will just get even more options or opinions

 

Sorry about posting in DIY! New to the forums, but thanks! I am just very new to rotaries and wasn't sure if they are very sensitive or will flood or something if I just slowly feed it into the vacuum line while its running... Hoping someone here has tried it so I could feel confident trying it.

 

I would very much like an answer to this question. After looking through all of the forum topics on this I haven't gotten a definitive answer. I Seafoam my other cars via vacuum line all the time and it works wonders.

Warm up the car, detach a vacuum line, let it drink the seafoam slowly. When the can is about to run dry make it chug until the engine stalls, then let it sit there for 20-30 mins. Start it up and watch the smoke...


Is this procedure in any way detrimental to the car? People from mechanic shops and auto part stores seem to think it's fine, but I come here for definitive answers.
