Rx8 Upgrade
I haven't seen anything in my AP or Streetuner software for it that would enable me to limit / unlimit my top speed. As far as I know for US cars this is no such ECU based limit.
JDM has a speed limiter, but there's a bolt-on ECU piggy-back thingy that defeats it.
Someone go get Jeff!

The automatic transmission versions do have a limiter. Manual transmission versions are only limited by aero drag.
The AP can limit speed if so desired. There is a Valet setting that does such a thing. Whether that is available from MM or Cobb, I don't remember.

ShellDude would be MUCH more qualified to listen to here... as i know nothing about the AT's, so thanks shell
i was just working on the assumption that you were limited from what i read

You can definitely adjust your rev limit so perhaps that's the confusing part.
Out of the box the 4AT is limited to 7500 RPM, but with an AP you can raise it as high as you like.
The whole speed limiter thing is real for JDM based 8s, but like I said, I've yet to see anything concrete (nor I have tried) that limits / cuts the throttle on my little 4AT.
With that said, I've yet to take it much over 100. 125+ would require a track, no doubt.

I can't imagine cruising my little 4AT at 7500+ RPM in 4th gear. It's 70-75 mph at 3200...
so if the limiter is rev based, you're talking some crazy speed of like 150mph.

There is nothing in any of the ECU programming, at least the maps provided by COBB, I've found that suggests there is an actual speed limiter on the 4ATs.
The only thing that has been confirmed for the US 4ATs is that they have a 7500 RPM rev limit that can be increased to whatever value you feel like pushing it to.

My engine replacement took a little over a month and i had to pay out of pocket for it (8000 big ones) and slap on another 1500 for a rental car.

Yeah that seems really high, you can get a pretty beefed up engine from Mazmart and have the prestige of telling everyone Rick Engilman built it, for that much, it is however Mazda you sourced the engine from...
This was a direct reply to someone with a US 05 4AT considering an AccessPort.
