Rx8 problems
Hi,
I bought a rx8 off a dealer around 3 months ago, A 2004 plate one, 231psi, Lovely looking, 40k miles, Now the engine is going, It hasn't gone yet I took it to the Mazda garage and they said the compression is going, its at 4 bars? Never the less im wanting to know how it will be to fix it, How many miles is it likely to last (if i treat it right) onwards?
Cheers
Ross

No one can tell you how much more an engine with low compression will last (probably not too much). Further, if the engine has lost compression the only way to fix the problem is rebuilt the engine or replace it. You could buy a remanufactured engine from Mazmart for about 3k I believe.
We need though more info to be able to tell you what you could do. Do you have the actual compression results? Can you post them? Further, do you have the maintenance records? Do you know if your ignition system is new? Do you know if your catalytic converter is good? Any problems starting the car, idling, check engine light? Do you get any weird smell from the exhaust or smoke? Do your rpms climb fast up to redline? Do you feel any power loss while accelerating? How about fuel consumption and oil consumption? How about your coolant level (do you loose coolant)? How does your air filter and intake look like (if engine is bad you might find oil in your intake tube)? These are some questions you need to ask yourself and report the answers here.
