Rebuild Or New Car?? Whats your Opinion

So, basically ... Some dumba** did something wrong and all my oil dumped out, causing my engine to shut down, and my engine temp jumped. (I didnt know the oil was gone till later on) I let it cool down and restarted the engine, and i was left with a car billowing smoke....

I investigated and saw there was no oil, so i refilled, and started the car, everything was fine... a little residual smoke.

BUT now i can smell the sweet smell of coolant being burned.... wonderful....

My car as 100,000 miles, 2004, still original engine. Has worked flawlessly until now. Still owe $8000k on it

Do i spend the money to rebuild the engine or try to sell and recoup the 8000 and get another one? Think its worth the rebuild??

Let me know what you guys think

you still owe 8000 on a 2004 ? I guess you got it used + you JUST got it ?

well, first off, why would u let "whoever that dumbass is" to do anything with ur oil ? so thats basically ur fault.

You ran your engine without oil, there is a very high chance that you've cooked both Rotor, the rotor housing, intermediate housing, water seals, and oil control rings. so yeah, in short, you screwed 90% of ur engine up.

Sell it as a part car or tell that dumbass to pay for ur engine. thats all I can say.

ARRR...

No LOW OIL warning light seen on your Dash???

nycgps is spot on, many or most of your internal engine parts would be cooked, and not reusable, it won't be known exact damage until pulled down, BUT, it will cost much more than a normal rebuild.
