"Torque wrenches are terribly inaccurate. +-40%
They measure torque well, but that doesn't correlate well to what actually matters."
Irrespective of the complications, torque wrenches can be terribly inaccurate. Even good ones can drift over time. The FAA requires torque wrenches used on aircraft to be calibrated by a certified shop every year and a paper trail kept to verify that it's been done. They tend to be less accurate near the lower end of their ranges: in other words +-5 ft lbs doesn't matter much on a 100 ft-lb bolt, but stinks for a 15 ft-lb one. A proper shop will have at least 3 torque wrenches covering different ranges in the tool box.

The sentiments you both express have been a concern for many here but they are rarely expressed in public. I tend to think that those of us whom have been around for a long time (long enough to see the changes, anyway) have a choice before us;
1) We can look down our collective noses, lament the changes, and treat new forum members like idiots.
2) We can be ambassadors toward these new forum members, guide them to what we have all learned over the years and make new friends in the process, achieve new levels of respect and leadership from them and our contemporaries, and help the new members learn/grow in the process.
For a glance into where the RX8Club may be headed, take a look at where the RX7Club is now and make your choice.

O and to add many of my Rotary owner friends said don't get the 8 is to much work. Some rotary builders said don't get is a headache to work on them . And now that I own it they said is a good car but depends on the owner and your the type that don't give up so is perfect for you . They actually say is a good car but you can't be cheap and they know that I ain't I just know how to spend and on what . I've own it for 2 months and drove it once .. why cuz I'm doing it right Rebuilt 1st and I been buying things I need so I'm doing it right . I build a shed last month to get all my yunk out of my garage to have my rx8 all for its self and parts will be safe and clean. To tell you the truth this is a good Thread .

1 - Most rebuilders simply don't understand the 13b-msp. Years of work on "common" 13bs brainwashed them and makes them refuse to understand\explore the newer technologies. Just because stuff doesn't work for them it doesn't mean that it doesn't work in general.
2 - Could you please use some punctuation plus better grammar and synthax? reading your posts makes me want to puke.
3 - The "my buddy that builds engines" reference is old and worth nothing. Especially if they're drag experts. An engine that may survive 10-100-1000 "passes" may not be reliable on a track or the streets.

Anything else and you are playing with fire.
Good luck on your build, I highly suggest your builder get a copy of the 13b-msp engine workshop manual. There are several big changes to the engine that a FC or FD builder would not know about.
I highly highly highly recommend going through Rotary resurrection or Mazmart though.

The engine is great if you don't mess with it too much. A street port with a tune and long tube headers is going to get you the most reliable HP.

You might be able to find a shop down there that has worked on 8's though.
I suggest you check out the regional section and post in there.

Thanks Shady and all who posted here. It is indeed difficult to sift through all the information available, Google or not. It is also difficult to sort out information between those wishing to gain knowledge and do good work from those who are way beyond that spending money the likes of which this guy will never see. I believe I am off to a good start......

Yeah, so I'm on here trying to learn about a rebuild for my sons 2007 RX-8. I ask him who he is on the site, he's not registered. I send the links, and nothing. Hasn't had time to read them. WTF, where did I go wrong. Two weeks go by, nothing. Kid gets my wheels spinning and he isn't a member, hasn't reviewed the material I sent, we can't move on this until he does his homework and we can discuss how to approach the matter. And now there's an RX-8 with a half *** attempt to begin pulling an engine.
The good news, I don't have to pony up for a rebuilt motor let alone parts for my attempt to rebuild.
My own kid.....punks the whole lot of them. Jakob, get your head outta your **** and lets get this matter resolved!!!
Think he'll read this?

You can lead a human to knowledge but you can't make them think.
Honestly, unless he's doing a rebuild himself for the joy of doing the rebuild or as a learning experience, it's better to just get a Mazda reman motor (or an upgraded motor based on a Mazda reman). The price on a reman vs self-rebuild is roughly the same in the end and you save all the free time and sweating the details.
I used to be like this when I was young. I mean, I still am, but I was back then, too.
(Rest in peace, Mitch.)

Without the proper tools and knowledge can be an expensive and/or less than optimally performing experience. A rotary seems easy to rebuild, but there are a few details, techniques, and tools/equipment that can make a substantial difference in durability and performance.

Well guys I, wankey yankey, the ultimate rotard, will begin this journey of dumbassery: I’m rebuilding my Renny in my apartment garage with no engine stand, let alone an adapter plate, nor do I have the proper cleaning station. However, I am aware of the madness I am about to begin. It’s not necessarily out of choice 😂, I can’t afford to pay someone for a rebuild, And no ones gonna buy the car so at this point what do I have to lose? I already got the new seals on the way I figured I might as well just replace everything, I think I’m even gonna send it and try to do a very conservative port on the bitch. Yes I know how dumb this sounds but the car is almost a lost cause so I figure why not go ***** to the wall?

At this point it’s more just a project for fun, even if I fail I’ll still learn something, my only other option at this point is selling the car to a junkyard so I might as well try right? What else could it cost me? Yeah the idea is to use the same housing and irons as long as they aren’t too bad but if they are I just send it to the junkyard anyway so while I’m on corona-quarantine it’ll at least be a fun way to spend my time.
#73
sell the seals for what $400? And that’s if anyone would buy them even they aren’t a complete kit, I kinda pieced it together from multiple sources. And I bought them a long time ago I’m really not spending a whole lot to do this, so what’s the worst that could happen? I don’t finish?
#74
btw I was also told buying a $500 **** box and swapping the car from automatic To manual was dumb and a waste of time and money but I did that successfully while spending a total of $600 maybe $800 on the high estimate, so my persistence/determination won’t be an issue.

Hi guys, looking to replace my rx8 192 engine, like for like, but doing it on my own plus neighbour to help. Is there anything i should be mindful of?
I'm buying an engine without ancillaries as will be using mine. I presume the key will need to be programmed and the ecu before the car starts.
Any effort will be appreciated
Reginald.
