After spending about an hour searching I still have some questions about turbocharging my RX-8. Forgive me if I missed a thread that has already answered these questions(and please link me to it if you know it)

What kind of engine life/ longevity will you see/ have you seen with a turbo?

I see a lot of signatures that say XXX HP at 9 psi, and XXX HP and 18 psi, which is safer for my engine, and which will provide the best street drive-ability?

Would it be worth my while to have a beefier tranny put in? or just a stronger clutch?

Try researching for a few months, or a year or so.

Turbos are very reliable.

They don't damage your engine, they will speed up processes which wear your engine down a bit though.

Depending on the boost your running (higher boost=more risk to your engine due to more more heat)..

All of the above does not apply unless you get a DECENT TUNE.

Read up in "major power upgrades" section.. There are tons of turbo threads.

Know that if you turbo your engine you void your warranty. There is no guarantee that a turbo will not destroy your engine. If you can not afford to replace the engine out of your own pocket or this is your only form of transportation DO NOT turbo this car.

Honestly I have never heard of a guy who has turbo'ed his 8 and hasn't eventually had problems.

 

^you need to RESEARCH alot before u think turbo...i go to school for Automotive performance and i've been searching online extra for about 6 months and feel comfortable now to do it with this engine!....just gotta find that kit

 

Yeah, turbo accelerates problems that would manifest with or without eventually.

Have you heard about the reliability of Ferraris?

They're N/A and the engines are pushed for performance rather than anything else, **** goes awry in them extremely often.

I chose Supercharger not because of a bias from turbo to S/C but because they can look nice, sound nice, and gain power.

I am not expecting that my kit will cause any less damage than a turbo of the same capacity

S/C Vs T/C is B/S

Power=Wear.

^haha yeah i'm sure it may get deleted...however to everyone their own on whether a s/c or t/c is better!!! However when it comes down to it a motor will produce a certain amout of power at acertain rpm and will wear out break down etc. with introducing FI you are Forcing(F) Incuction(I a.k.a. air) into the system and making it work hard to make power so either way ti will wear out eventually but with the proper maintenance can last for long long periods of time....look at turbo diesel motors lasting 500k miles before a rebuild!
