You obviously don't come from a rotary background. Here is a photo (if I do it right) that shows the stock RX8 manual shift flywheel on the left and ours on the right (with counterweight). The stock flywheel has more material cast into it on one side (on the top of the photo). This is for counterbalancing. On the automatic cars that have a flimsy flexplate, there is nowhere to put this much counterbalance material, so they design a seperate counterweight for the neutral balanced flexplate to bolt to. In the photo, the counterweight is sitting on top of our flywheel.
Let me explain again what the problem is: The automatic counterweight is not balanced with the same counterbalancing as the stock manual flywheel. This is because the front counterweights (buried in the front cover) are different. If you still don't get it, email me at dstarksen@advancedclutch.com.

ok i understand what you are talking about now, the act counter weight is the piece off of the automatic. this i was unaware of(never dealt with a automatic rotary). and your right im not from a rotary background, this is my first rotary and my experience with working on them is bolt ons and removing the engine to put a ls1 in its place. thanks for the explanation, the pic helped alot.

So how is it that those of us who have replaced our factory flys with aftermarket flys have no counter-balance issues even though we have yet to change the front balancer? Not arguing, just asking. Are there, perhaps, imbalance issues that we haven't yet detected but will cause problems later?

Thanks, ACTman, for the explanation. You're right, at least as far as street use goes, that if the rotaries are not detailed on the balance it makes no sense to pay a premium for a clutch set that is more well-balanced than the engine itself.
I can attest to the fact that my ACT Xtreme Duty pressure plate with the street disc works very well and have complained none about the abuses I have delivered to it. I am going on 30K miles of hammering it and it still engages well.

p.s. please tell Dawn Morgan that the package she sent me was very comprehensive and helpful. I only asked for the latest sponsor stickers and I got a new catalog and a bunch of other stuff.

Give it time, you'll be good in a few weeks.
