powertrain warranty!?
hi ya'all i just bought the rx8 a month ago along with 1 year powertrain warranty, everything is pretty good with the 8, just MPG really bad, about 1000miles before i got the car they changed battery and spark plug(which is about a year ago but it should still be good right?==.==)
so now, i am taking to the dealer and let them check out my car, cause i am only getting 10MPG in city i clean the MAF sensor, i use fuel injector cleaner..
i just want to ask if you guys know powertrain warranty cover for changing bad coil??
coil is probably the only thing i didn't do, except chaing air filter base on all the infomation i could found here.....
thanks!!!!

How many miles does it have and how many miles since it got the plugs? Ten miles per gallon is not good, but it is very possible depending on how it's driven. What service has it had?

I bought my used 8 with 51k miles last month. Had the plugs, wires, and coils replaced. I also had some of the 60000 mile service done early, including: oil and oil filter change, coolant flush, new oil in the diff, and new gear oil for the tranny.
I can't begin to tell you what a difference this made. I'm getting 18.5 mpg using midgrade. Not sure what the mileage was before, but I definitely feel and improvement in performance and am getting slightly better mileage.
Do you have PROOF that the plugs were changed? The guy I bought it from said he changed them a few months ago, but I had them pulled and they looked like they were a good year or two old.
Get the coils and wires replaced, then let us know what happens.
BTW - Buy a bottle of Techron (for 12 gallon tanks), run your tank to near empty, throw in a bottle of that along with a tank full of Chevron Premium. Run that fuel for your next 3-4 fillups and see if it helps. It made a difference for me and I plan to run Techron every 2-3 months from now on.
What grade of oil is the car running?

Also if your oil has not been changed in over a year(most recommend changing every 3-4 months) do your car a favor. All those short trips load the oil with water and contaminants and will cause premature wear.

agreed...also you dont' know for real when the oil was last changed...best thing to do with a used car is tune up as soon as you get it or if buying from dealer make them do it before you buy!

Most dealers will change oil&filter for 20-30 bucks. I get coupons for $19 in the mail a few times a year, once you are in their computer. It's not worth the trouble for my money. Of course when I was a young man I always did my own and kept records, because I did 3-4K a month for 35 years.
