poor gas mileage / spark plugs?
I am getting about 170 miles for a full tank. I went to Mazda center today and they said that I probably need new spark plugs and they charge $260!!!
I found a thread of how to change spark plugs on this forum.
I was wondering where online I can buy good/reliable spark plugs for a reasonable price and what kind of spark plugs do I need?
Thanks!!!

Close to the best price you'll get anywhere else. Don't think you can skimp out with other brands.

My friend told me about a different set of NGK's that work just as well, its just a different model from the OEM, i bought them 7$ each.
BR7EIK and BR8EIK im pretty sure was the types. i have them on now, runs perfectly.

There are many reasons for poor gas mileage. The ignition system is but one of them. I have had several engines replaced and the mileage has mostly remained the same with all of them, with the exception of the last one. It has gone up slightly. The abilities of the Renesis to get good mileage, as far as I can tell (after 6yrs of ownership and being a constant reader here), remains a mystery. One person gets 150 mi to the tank. The next gets 270.
I'm currently getting 200.

when i first got my car i drove to miami from tampa and i put a full tank and it was a 4 hr drive all highway miles going about 75mph the whole way.
i got back with about a quarter.i guess its not soo bad

^.....yeah, the debate or guessing will continue. I pretty consistantly get between 220-240 miles per tank(light coming on), that's in sort of a small beach town area, but with some lengthy lights.
To the OP, since this is your first attempt. Get the right plugs and as was suggested, do one plug at a time. There are plenty of DIY's to show you the process.
Someone just posted in that thread, so I didn't have to search for it!

False.
The fuel pump on the 8s go bad regardless of fuel level. Granted, most 8s won't need a fuel pump replacement till 120k+, but if you are a very hard driver, you can start running into issues as soon as 60,000. By 60,000 though, most 8 pumps are starting their decline, though you may not notice for double that.
Now, if you run it out of fuel, or low enough with enough high G corners under load and cause pickup problems, then yeah, you can easily have pump issues faster, as the fuel is a lubricant to the pump.
You will have a bigger issue getting a lean spike from sudden no fuel or limited fuel, and if under high revs/high load, this can blow your engine.
Not something to strictly worry about, just I wouldn't recommend going WOT when you are about to run out of fuel. It's not the best way to get to the gas station anyway.
