Paxton Supercharger.....on Rx8.....possible?

My brother has a paxton supercharger that hes pretty much giving to me. It was originally designed for a Mustang but a few friends that I work with that are techs say it'll fit on my RX8. Now, with that said, here's my question; Whats the risk? I know the "side effects" of forced induction but Im talking about serious problems. A supercharger thats not designed for the RX8 custom installed......How much risk am I running of serious mechanical issues/ engine blowing up and that type of thing? This thread is directed towards experienced techicians and people who know alot about forced inductions on RX8s and people who have credibility towards the situation. I'm simply asking for honest advice and Im hoping I dont get ridiculous comments for even asking about a paxton supercharger on an RX8.

since it is a centrifugal compressor you need to pay some attention to the flow map and gearing limits but there is no reason it can't work. just look at the procharger kit.
All you need is room (plenty of it in the engine bay) a rigid mount and the right gearing.

PRETTY MUCH , YOU NEED IT TUNED. YOU CANT JUST THROW ON A BLOWER AND THINK SINCE THERE IS MUCH MORE AIR GOIN IN TO UR MOTOR THAT IT WILL CREATE MAJOR HORSEPOWER WITH OUT ANY DAMAGE. of course power will increase..but its the safety of your motor that is more extensive in care.

better to get an "Official Turbo" then using something that is not made for the subject.

now ask yourself.....why take the risk of taking the risk...LOL~

good luck dudee*

Definitely check the gearing. Mustangs redline at 5400 or something as I remember. Your rotary can spin upwards of 9000 so you might overspin the paxton. Might want to put a bigger cog on there. Where are you planning on mounting it?

Every Paxton I've ever seen flows way too much for a rotary and actually runs in surge most of the time. The old 2nd generation RX-7's had a kit based on the Paxton Novi 2000 supercharger and that thing could only manage about 220 rwhp due to running in a very efficient part of the compressor map. That blower is capable of so much more power than that on the proper engine. It would probably work fine on a 3 rotor but I don't see it working well on a 2 rotor. They never have. If they have one that is intended for small engines this may no longer be the case. If it was intended for a Mustang I can pretty much guarantee that it isn't going to work all that well.

As far as what are the risks, they are no greater than with any other forum of forced induction. You'll encounter the same issues except you'll also be fabricating everything. This is actually the fun part to me. If you have good fab skills then I don't see any reason why you couldn't get creative and make it fit well. I personally am not a fan of centrifugal superchargers on small engines but others are. However I feel that the Paxton will be a bad matchup for a 2 rotor engine and produce results far lower than what you are expecting. If you want to do a centrifugal supercharger, I'd check out the one Mazdatrix sells. I know you are getting this basically for free but I think the sizing requirements will be so far off that it won't be worth the effort of using this particular unit.

I used the Paxton on my 2nd gen in 94-95. It made right at 285 rwhp. The engine was managed with MoTec M4. It ran well and sounded cool but was a huge piece of **** from a performance standpoint. I dumped it and went turbo and never looked back. Don't waste your time on 1960's technology. There are many better choices for FI than Paxton.
