TX OMP problem Please Help

Okay,

Mazda reman with 12k on it, SOHN running JASO FD 2 stroke, premix in gas, BHR ignition, and catless from day one. Everything else has 113,000 miles on it.

I have been noticing over the past two weeks that my SOHN reservoir does not seem to be going down. Not having time to tear it apart I just added 1oz of premix to my last tank of gas versus the normal .5 oz of premix.

I am not getting any CEL's other than the O2 code due to the lack of a cat. I checked the reservoir and the hose was flowing fine so no clogs there. I pulled the SOHN adapter and it was full of clean 2 stroke, no apparent failure of any kind.

I called Richard Sohn himself and he was very willing to help but said that he has not had a single failure of a SOHN adapter on any application and that if there is 2 stroke inside the SOHN then it appears to be working. He asked if I had any check engines lights and I told him he did not so he suggested going through the factory service manual and doing the OMP checks.

I am going to look up those checks now but do you guys think it is possible for the OMP to fail an not set off a CEL? The clear lines coming off of the OMP seem to be filled with 2 stroke. If it is not working do you think 1oz per gallon is enough for now to prevent damage to the motor?

Thanks fellas

Hum maybe if you put some idemitsu premix then disconnect one of the omp lines up top and see if oil comes out? That's kinda an 1st gen rx7 trick so I don't know about much about RX8 OMP system and sensor yet.

Yeah I could try that I guess (using my normal Jaso FD 2 stroke of course).

I just looked at the service manual and I guess I need to get someone to measure the resistance between the terminal for me and it also has a part about clogging in the nozzles so I guess I need to see if anything is clogged.

Seems to me that if the pump or connectors were faulty that I would get a CEL so it's likely something is clogged.

I had one die...and it scoped out perfect.....not sure WTF was going on...

I tried everything I could think of to get it working...but it took a new pump

No CEL....but the car would go into limp mode.

Buy an AP...and crank up the MOP map and see if the oil flow changes.

If you are driving like a granny it will only sit in the 4-8 injection part of the map....so maybe that ids your problem

The nozzles can plug up..and the PCM has no way to know if the oil is flowing at all...so if you feel ambitious..pull off the UIM and the fuel rails and check. I don't think there is any easier way to tell if they are plugged

Yeah I definitely don't granny it, she gets red lined daily. I may just pull the UIM off and check that. I did a long road trip last weekend and didn't noticea drop in the reservoir all week.

The likelyhood of all 4 being plugged is lousy though......

If you crack the OMP lines at the pump and let in a small air bubble..you can watch to see if it moves towards the injectors or not...that works well to see if one is plugged....

The smallest point in the system is right where the Sohn adapter inlet hose enters the adapter..so if that is plugged check there

If it was me..I think I'd look for a used pump and swap it out before I pulled the whole manifold apart to check the nozzles

Yeah I removed the SOHN, removed the hose from the reservoir and removed the nipple from the SOHN adapter to assure there were no clogs there.

You are right about them all being clogged. I was thinking of just looking for a OMP somewhere too.

Does anyone know if the plastic lines can be bought separately?

Cool, If I am going to replace the pump I might as well put in new lines. If they are not crazy expensive that is. I am still looking for a reasonably priced used OMP.

Okay, decided to get into this again today, removed the omp, gasket, and SOHN. Removed one of the lines and there is 2 stroke in the hollowed out bolt but not much in the line itself. Again, no OMP codes and the Cobb shows what seem to be normal OMP readings.

Should I be worried if I am premixing 1oz of Idemitsu per gallon? It's just that the engine is not pulling very much at all from the SOHN reservoir, like it used too. I am driving a lot less miles but in the last three thousand miles it has only pulled like 1/2 quart from the SOHN reservoir.

I have a spare one if you need it ...
As far as premixing goes - 200:1 seems to work ok for me which i think is close to your 1oz/gallon .

Thanks, I may hit you up for that. I removed and cleaned everything today and re cut a new gasket for the SOHN. I also cleaned out all the electrical connectors and the hollow bolts and fittings on the clear oil lines. I will drive it for a week or two and see if the reservoir empties at all.
