oil pan

Hey folks, I was changing my oil today and I noticed that there is oil residue around the oil pan ( not so much leaking). Is it true that there is no oil pan gasket on our cars? Is it some type of sealant? If so what kind of sealant? Do I just remove the pan and scrap off the old seal, clean it and replace it with new sealant? Is it a complicated project, from the looks of it , it does seem too painful.

you are right. Its pretty simple.. but because of sealant used, pulling the pan off is a little difficult if you are just using jack stands. Make sure you have a rubber mallet to knock it loose. do NOT pry between the pan and block with a screwdriver :P

It's called a razor blade...haha. Once the pan is off you can scrap off the gasket remnant with a razor, works perfectly.
