Been searching but cannot find instructions on how to remove the Oil Metering Pump to replace a leaking o-ring. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

 

Two electrical connectors and three bolts, then it comes off and swap out the seal

Dealership wants $410 to remove/inspect and quoted me four hours labor to remove......Any idea how long it takes a normal DIY to get this thing off?

 

It's in a bad place, front passenger side of the block.

Where are you located?

 

pull the battery tray remove the passanger side tire. get the one 10mm bolt from the top and the other 2 from the bottom. its easier if you remove the undertray but you dont have to. it is located right below where all the coolant hoses tie into. its not the simplest thing to do but its not too bad

 

It takes an hour tops, maybe two if you are slow. Remove the battery, tray, etc. and the intake (optional) to get at the OMP easily. Jack up the front so you can get at the bottom of the OMP easier, remove the bolts and the rest is apparent. Just remember oil will spill out when you take it off. I have done it a couple of times and never pulled the tire or removed the tray but everyone works differently and some people are more flexible, have smaller hands, bigger hands, etc.

 

Thanks guys for saving me $1,866 the dealer wanted to charge me for a new OMP and labor to fix a very slow leak!

 

Wait a minute. A new OMP? Are you having any issues other than the oil leak?

 

Yep...they replaced one on my car under warranty cause the seal was leaking

The easiest way to get at it is to remove the oil lines from the top of the engine...and then remove the bolts for the pump from underneath....

 

Then be advised if you remove and reinstall the OMP the position switch may need to be adjusted if the car starts up in limp mode

 

Really? I must look into this. I have not had limp mode issues but I wonder if it needs to be checked.

 

Lol, you would know if it happens as it has to a few of us, it's a variable not a given, advising him just in case ....

 

The only issue I had was the slow leak (one quarter-sized drop or less overnight). Engine still using oil, which I assume means the pump is still metering oil out. Dealer gave me the estimate, then the service manager pulled me aside and said although it was leaking, they "were not sure the OMP HAD to be replaced, maybe just the o-ring, but since they would have four hours of labor into it by that point, he was required to advise they just replace the OMP while they were in there"

I can only assume they were hoping for an up-sale on a $1,300 pump and the service manager took pity on me to warn I may not need it.

 

I have a copy of the Sohns adapter install from the extinct turbo renesis site. I will send you a copy in an e-mail if you send me it to me . Pics are included in it on removal and install. Hope this helps.

Im going to be possibly removing mine to fix a leak. My question is, can I replace the O ring in the bay, not fully removing the OMP. I know that the oil lines can become fragile and break.

Anyone know the size of the O ring so I can grab one before I tear it apart lol

Im currently trying to source a oil leak, hoping the OMP is the culprit versus the front main seal

 

The o ring is available on Atkins. Watch the following video and I think it will answer your question about how much you will need to remove the OMP to get at the oring.

 

The O-ring is a particular shape (not an O). You can get full access to it by removing the battery, tray and passenger wheel. Check Skhn adapter installation theads (like the video above) to see how to get to it. It's really not that hard, maybe an hour if you make all the righ moves.

 

Change of subject, I'm trying to install a Sohn adapter onto my 2009 RX8. Problem is I can't locate the OMP where it's supposed to be. Did the location change from series 1 to series 2? Please help.

 

I think I read on the forum today that sohn won't fit an s2 due to different design and due to the third oil injector, sohn is not necessary, premix is preferred, but for the love of me I can't find it now.

OMPs are very different on a series 2.
