Oil filter: by hand or by wrench?

When I did my first oil change I couldn't get the filter off either. I even had filter wrenches. I also had to resort to the screwdriver method. It took me close to two hours and lots of cuts and bruises to finally get it off.

For the first oil change - get the dealer to do it. After that, you should be able to take the filter out without tools.

My filter came right off with the wrench. It's in a way too weird position to bother getting it off by hand imo.

Now the drain bolt... took me & my brother over an hour to get it off. Hate it when people over-torque bolts :/
