Question Oil consumption

My 8 is a week old and I checked the oil after 2 gas fills - its used up one-quarter of a quart (US quart). Wondering what kind of oil comsumption you guys have seen.

The oil level was between full and the first mark - the first mark is 0.5 US quarts I think.

Thanks,
Bodi

New.....

You should really look around the site before posting such a basic question. Lots of info on that subject.

The car uses more oil when it's new, the consumption should settle down after a few thousand miles. One quart per 3000 would be normal....

Did you check it the day you picked it up? A week is not enough time to tell if anything is wrong. The RX-8 uses oil by design, mine takes about a quart every 3,500 miles. So continue to check every 2 fill-ups and get back to us after a few thousand miles.

That works out to (very roughly) 1600 miles per quart. That's just fine. The oil consumption is VERY dependent on driving conditions. High-rpm driving uses a lot more, and stop&go traffic does also since it results in lots more engine revolutions *per mile*. I've had times where I've gone through a quart in 1000 miles due to traffic congestion and I've gone on 1000 mile trips using just a few onces.
