Why bother, proper catch cans are cheap. And if you ran thru a puddle it could possible cause a big problem, plus you would be inhaling a bit of dirt, etc. at all times.


Really that hose should always be recirculated to the intake, I never recommend doing just a filter on a street car.

 

in this thread, from what i think im understanding, some people cap the plug on the acordion and just use the breather filter. are there any short or long term effects from not recirculating the air?

 

On 04s and 05s capping the accordian is fine.

I think the design changed somewhere around 06 which I believe requires it remain a closed system.

Yes your crankcase would have no where to vent, it could damage your engine.

 

there are actually two vents; one at the oil filler neck and a second at at the base of the oil filler assembly where it bolts to the engine sump flange.

Ok, it's just that it obliviously needs a rebuild and there's a nice pulse of oil that comes out every compression enough to fill a large catch can in 30 mins. So the motors already fubard.

And TBH I'm just waiting for her to not start anymore to really give me a reason to rebuild that i've been procrastinating on.

This thing is drinking more oil then the Golf of Mexico right now, kinda like oil control ring failure or something...

 

Sorry to hear that, but continuing to run the motor by installing a catch can only ruins internal parts. Then people rebuild reusing those parts and get a sub-par engine that doesn't last. It's like an ever increasing downward spiral ...

Clean air in the engine is the short and long term effects.

Just bought an EIGIIS universal oil catch, it gives me an option to attach a breather on top of the oil catch can facilitate pressure relief.

I use Ruien 0046 oil catch can. I like it as the can is easily installed and removed.

 

I am considering a check valve before the breather is the way to go.so that i may have the two system benefits, vacuum from intake at high rpm and breath out at low. especially when turbo is at rest.
