Hello, is there a difference between the 2 catalytic converters? mine is that number : checked with my mazda dealer and they said there are 2 things like :canada part :xxx-xxx and california part : xxx-xxx but its the same number.

 

u are in canada right? Just get the canada one, if its cheaper. you are in montreal? Lol im in montreal like right now.

 

They both bolt up the same, and both will pass any tailpipe emissions test. I passed California emissions easily a year ago, even though my car is a federal model (sold in Hawaii.)

There may be some minor difference in the internal substrates, but the real difference is just the the California version has been tested by the state (CARB.)

This comes in to play when it is time to replace. In most states you can replace the cat with a generic model that is suitable for your car based on its weight. In California you must use a model that has been approved specifically for use in your particular model of car.
I don't know Canadian laws, but in general there is no reason to get the California model outside of California. In fact there are other, cheaper options. I know Mangaflow makes a bolt up replacement and I bet it is a decent part.

Midpipes and high-flow cats aren't really legal in most places, but enforcement is usually spotty.
