They seem to want to put in a new pump....so who am I to argue
Since I am out of warranty, I am taking it to our local Mazda/Rotary guru, and having him do the work. I will mention trying a new gasket first, it might be less costly of a repair. My issues started on Saturday, of this past weekend. It got worse from there, and then we got under the car, cleaned a lot of oil spray up, and two of the 4 bolts for the brass lines leading into the MOP were loose. I tightened those two, just a tiny bit, and the amount of oil leaking decreased considerably. So I am not sure what the real culprit is, but will next week.

From what I have seen about what RB does, is the modify the stock MOP to inject more oil than the stock setup does, most useful for FI engines. And they like their products a lot, and I would be without my car for even longer than I am now. But it is an idea, one that I looked into, it just won't be a good solution for me.

when the problem first showed up this past weekend, I did tighten all of the bolts for the brass tubes leading to the MOP. Two of them were loose. But even after that, it was still leaking, but less. Once it gets looked at Monday, I will report back as to what is causing it to leak.

good to know about the gasket, but it has to be less $$ than a new MOP.

If you have changed your tranny/diff oil, that may also be the source. I started having a smell after changing those and went crazy looking for leaks. Everything looked fine.

Someone on here mentioned that the heavy gear oils take forever to evaporate away and that if you only wipe it clean after the job, the residue will smell for a long time. I sprayed the diff and tranny down with Simple Green, rinsed, and problem solved.

thanks for the offer, but after my outside opinion, we have determined that Mazda's diagnosis of a leaking MOP, was incorrect. I in fact, have a leaking crank seal.

Another first for my Mazda Service Dept. here in ATL, it is in the shop as of about an hour ago, let's see if they can get it fixed this time.

well, it gets worse. leaking crank seal, leaking water pump, and a leaking oil pan. The car will be in the shop until sometime next week, when all the parts can arrive, and all th work can be done. But, in all of this, the MOP without a doubt...not leaking. The one thing they thought was wrong with the car, is functioning just as it should.

I was just getting ready to post a MOP up for sale...

For you a good deal I would have had.

thanks for thinking of it, but I am glad I don't need one. My local shop here, had found one at a substantial savings over new at the dealership, but we get to return it now, since we don't need it.

you could have almost bought the entire engine for that price from the "For sale" area.
