Noise from gas tank

Noise from gas tank
I had an incident with my transmission where it just went clunk hard when coming to a full stop. Dealer says there is no problem, but ever since this incident, I've been hearing thumping noise fromt he rear when the car comes to a full stop. I went and emptied everything from the trunk and the noise was still there. It took a few days but I've managed to find out that the spare tire was not fastened(also noticed my IMS kit was missing ). After tightening the spare tire hoping the noise will be gone, I drove the car around and the noise is still there.
It was about 2-3 am in the morning and the noise seemed louder. It finally hit me. It was coming from the gas tank. The gas in the tank is moving around and I can hear the splash noise and at the same time and the tank is making thumping noise.
Is this normal?

Certainly not. Is this a US car? If so, it could be that when they did one of the latest recalls that calls for dropping the tank, they didn't reinstall the tank correctly. Take it back to the dealer for repairs.

Yes, purchased in Long Island NY.
I don' think service manager is gonna like me much. In less than 1200 original miles, had to change the gear ****, sand/paint rear rotor, possible gear/transmission problem, fuel consumption problem, missing IMS kit while at dealer, oil foam on dip stick.........

Technician said is is normal.
If you folks don't mind, when driving at night when it is very quiet outside, give it a hard brake right before you stop and listen for any noise from the rear. My car thumps twice or more followed by fuel splashing inside the gas tank. I only hear this at night time when it is very quiet out side. Maybe it is normal for this behavior?

It's quiet around the business park where I work and really quiet up in the woods near my farm. I usually avoid hard brakes (especially in the winter), but the roads are good right now and there's places I can do that. I'll listen carefully for gas tank noise tonight. Do you hear it better with windows up or windows down? Do you hear it more with a fuller or emptier tank?
Personally, I think one of the techs got pissed off and crammed your IMS kit into your gas tank.

I hear this with windows closed with usually 1/2 to 3/4 full.
I don't mean hard break during normal driving. When coming almost to complete stop(2-5 mph)?, hit the brake and right after car comes to a full stop, the noise is heard..
Thanks Cool..

Now, typically, I pride myself on really smooth braking. If you ride with me you won't feel the car kick back when I stop because I release the brake pressure as speed approaches zero. Making a decently hard brake so that the car rocked forward and back on its suspension is unusual for me and it did cause a noise I had never noticed before (especially with music, heater, kids, etc).
I'm going to say this sound/phenomenon is normal, but it shouldn't be anything you'd notice with music on, heat or A/C fan on or an interesting passenger.
