You better be, you can't possibly be redlineing on 6th gear. Cause you'll be going way too fast:D

it's not a bad thing to do it once a day (redline it) and 1st is certainly an easier gear to get away with that - 3rd you'd be going 90 and 2nd 68 so there's not many roads that it's legal. And 1st you can get it real fast. And it sounds great!

if you mean to ask if it's worse for the car in 1st gear or something, no, it doesn't make much of a difference as to which gear it's in (actually, it's "easiest" on the motor in first")

Wanna do a redline?

I do it all the time, and figure this engine so protecting itself all the time that there will likely be little appreciable harm done. Its most common for me to go there in first. The redline bounce is a little disconcerting too, but it teaches you a lesson.

It just would be more worth going there in other gears (MPG wise) it if there was a puch from 7000-9000 rather than just getting louder and pitiful acceleration, at least in my Rx-8 (4500 km)

I hit it in first a few days ago while playing around with my buddy in his corvette. I hit it in third tonight when playing with myself.... you know what I mean. I feel retarded more than worried when I hit it cause I missed a shift. But I don't think it's hurting much. I've never hit a rev limiter on a car before. Done it on the bike.... and still felt retarded but this car revs like a motorcycle. This engine just doesn't sound like it needs a shift. Gotta start looking at the tach more, maybe that's why it's so big in the gauge cluster, eh?

i go for redline when i wanna have fun, i'm under the impression that thats when you get the most power. redlining in 2nd gear is awesome. so if it's cool in first gear then... zoom zoom

Where's the power?

sup3rbad: The max power comes a little before the redline -- 8,500 instead of 9,000, I think. Going up to redline is usually good for performance if you're going up through the gears, because it lands you in a fatter part of the torque curve in the next gear when you shift.

in my defense so i won't look so dumb. i was aware of the max HP at 8500rpm... but thanks for the shifting advice. I still have a lot to learn about driving stick. all i really know is how to get around.
