New RX-8 drive: Heat & Noises
Hello, I just bought a 6 speed MT w/ Grand Touring Package and after my first 40-miles drive I have the following comments and questions:
1.- After driving for a while, I started to feel a lot of heat around the shift stick area. My first impression was that the gear box was generating the heat, but actually most of the central panel was suffering from the same effect.
I stopped several times during my drive, and actually left the car running idle for about 3 min (w/ air conditioning on). Anyway, I made an stop at a restaurant for 45 min and when I came back the heat was still there.
Is this normal or was it a consecuence of the stops?
2.- There is a noise coming from below when you reverse from the parking lot and them make a right or left to start driving. Any hints on this?
3.- Sometimes, when the car is running idle some clicks and noises suddenly appear. Is that normal to rotary engines?
I will really appreciate your comments.
Regards. Juurdane

1. Rotarties run hot. This is normal. No need to worry. That is why there are 2 oil coolers.
2. That "thump" you hear in the ABS doing a system check everytime you start out. No need to worry.
3. I don't think I've noticed what you describe here. Could just be metal peices expanding due to heat. Anybody else??
Happy motoring.

i also hear noise when turning out of my drive way from a complete stop. it sounds like the tire is rubbing the wheel well. has anyone else experienced this? my car has no mods to tires, rims (18") or suspension.
this noise seems to occur often. can you describe the ABS sound with more detail?
thanks!

There is 0 real rubbing, and once I'm going and flogging/drifting the car, everything is very tight.
I would say abs noise, but it's just a guess.
