Wouldn't leaning it out mean more power? especially in the upper RPM range? I mean if the timing stayed the same then I would think there should be more power right? I don't get it...

I think he meant that it's still a rich pig in open loop (hence no power change) and the difference in milage came from closed loop operation.

leaning out would mean a little more power in closed loop, plus better fuel economy.

tire size is actually slightly smaller than stock, so the revolutions per mile would increase slightly, which would negatively affect fuel economy

You realize that changing tire sizes (45 -> 40 aspect ratio) will cause the spedometer/odometer to read incorrectly. This will throw off any calculation of miles/gallon.

On stock 18x8 the difference between 225/45/18 to 245/40/18 is less than 1% overall diameter change. That means you'll be off 1 mile for every 100 miles you drive. Not significant in my book.

It's only a 1% difference in overall diameter which equates +2 miles over a 200 mile stretch.

230 miiles/13gal=17.69mpg
232.3miles/13gal=17.89mpg

Not a 2 mpg difference.

Okay - I got the R flash, assuming this number is correct:

Impressions? Yes, the car does seem to rev 'smoother' and the power-dip tween 6-7, or 7500 is reduced. i can still feel a small 'dip' around 6200 or so, but that dip was present on the dyno, so I expected it.

I hope it's not a placebo effect.

mine was built november/04. The fronts have the rust like they're "flowing". It look so bad. Good thing DIY is not that hard but for the price this is unacceptable.

I told them it's been lacking power - with a huge lag tween 6k and 7500...just not running right.

yes, but most of the time you have to give them a reason (see previous posts) to flash your car.

Are you experiencing any of the issues we discussed? IMO If it aint broke don't fix it.

If the flash is worthy of getting (which we still don't know), thenn my only reason will be to tell the Service Writer that if he wants to keep getting tips when they work on my car then make something up

lol... the ol' "i have trouble starting my car" backfired eh? 3 hours not bad, I went to my dealership last month did the same thing, they took my car for 4 days to do a friggin flash. Some dealers have to recreate the situation before they flash you or do any type of warranty work.

I just tell them it's intermitent and if they don't do the flash I will be pissed off because then I would have to come up there untill they can reproduce it which might never happen; they usually take care of it.

well if it goes as i currently believe then all will be getting a flash up to at least R along with the recall inspection we still dont know for fact any of the changes made with R. dont worry about getting every stinkin flash. when you have a problem go in and see if it can be cured by a flash. i havent had any problems so am still on M
