What flash?
Shoot, I have no clue what flash I have...according to my receipt my dealer did not flash my car last time I was in, nor the time before that...maybe they did not document it, guess I should ask.
I did notice a difference in my car after I got an oil change but it could have been that little devil in the back of my head saying "you just washed it and maybe they flashed it and therefore it is faster, go faster, go faster, what speed limit sign, punch it!!!" Thankfully I did have to get back to work, that little guy is going to get me in trouble one day! :D
I purchased my car in October but if my flash is like the inspection sticker that they gave me then I am probably still on A flash! :p

The service guy told me there is no TSB for a reflash out for 05 cars. I did this about 2 weeks ago.
Where's the TSB for the rusty rotors? I took it to the dealer and they said there's no tsb for it (I have an '04).

Well, today was "routine maintenance day" for my Pepper. I wrote-up a note to inform them that I knew about the "P" flash and I stretched the truth just a little about how crappy my MPG was, that I was on the "M" flash and that youze guys were praising the "N" flash, how it improved MPG and performance in general, that if they didn't have the "P" flash, they should at least have the "N" flash, and I want either one.
Well, no questions asked, they did the reflash and were all sorts of polite with me and, along with my free scheduled maintenance, I walked out with another 0.00 on the bottom line. Happy day. The ride home was very good - engine response was real nice. Power was good throughout the rpm range, as best I could tell, with cars all over the place. Idle is smooth. All is well.
Then, I get home to tell y'all this stuff and find this "R" flash stuff. Argh. So, I call my service guys and ask. The third guy I guess was the one who was supposed to know, and he told me "P". I dunno. Did he really know, or was he telling me what he thought I was wanting to hear? I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they updated their WDS this morning because of me, and because of that, I might have gotten the "R" flash, them not even knowing.
So, I checked the AC cutout rpm. Sure enough, it's right about at 7,500, definitely not the old 5,500. So, they say I have the "P" flash, but how do I know by the car itself, if it's actually the "R" flash? I really don't want to ask that service guy anything else about it...
oh yeah, my invoice has no numbers of any kind like the ones mentioned here.

My dealer said the regional Mazda rep discontinued approval for this job due to people keep coming back for repaint (bunch of BS if you ask me).

No ones knows what the R flash is for and since it is so new if the shop doesn't keep the WDS hooked up the internet they wouldn't even know anything about it.

The 05's have different letters as a suffix i.e. c,d,e for calibrations. I think it's either d or e at this time and it is the equivelent of p for 04 models. ESI and shows nothing new.

there IS or WAS a some sort of official mazda message for it...I printed it, and took it to my dealer to get them to repaint mine.
"Do an ESI search with 2004/RX8/Brakes. It will post as an MRI - Mazda Repair Information"
RUST ON BRAKE ROTOR HUBS
Applicable Models:
2004 RX8 0000000 ZZZZZZZZ
0003559:
Rust can be seen on the brake rotor hub area when looking between the wheel spokes. 1. Remove rust from hub(s) by sanding. 2. Clean/prep hub surface with primer. 3. Mask off brake rotor area. 4. Apply primer around entire hub area. 5. Once primer dries, apply a heat type silver paint to the affected area to reapir the vehicle. Note: Replace the rotor(s) only if the affected area cannot be repaired enough to satisfy the customer.

marietta the did in fact release a new level for all the rx-8s here are thefile names i have posted twice before. also note that its not just the "suffix" tha tis different with the 05 flash nomenclature the "prefix" is different as well "N3K" instead of "N3Z".
on the brake thing- its weird the mazda regiona; guy would say to stop doing th eservice since the MRI says if the repaint doesnt work to replace them.

people kept asking "should i go get P?" and i said " wait until you have some problem cause there will be a new one by then"
i dont know yet if this is they were/are working on for the AT enigine issue that had to be passed by the epa.

New 'R' flash
I just went from 'N' to the new 'R' PCM reflash.
My gas mileage has gone up about 2 mpg, consistently. Either the flash is to blame or switching from the stock 225/45 18 RE040s to 245/40 18 F1s did it.
Of course, the car is still painfully slow, so they must've leaned it out in closed loop.
