New owner of a RX8 with a dead engine....

Hello all,

First posting here...I have "inherited" of a 2004 one-lady-owner RX8 with dead engine - a blown seal. When we started it there was so much white smoke we could even see the house anymore...

The car is automatic with 155000 miles.
Never abused, extremely clean.

I will have the car delivered to my garage tomorrow and I have already started looking at options for engine replacement/rebuild.

I have been looking at replacement engine and was wondering if there is any difference between the automatic and the manual?
Also, is there any chance that the cat converter could have been damaged?

I am new to this rotational world...but lot of experience as a mechanic.
I have looked at the DIY for engine removal - very helpful.

Can't wait to get started...

thanks!

The M/T(6 port) and A/T(4 port) engines are different.
