New Computer Worries

Sorry to start a thread for something that may seems trivial, but my car is at the dealer right now and will probably need its computer replaced. The thing is, my car was one of those rare RX-8's that had a really good flash I was really happy with... nice solid power curve and better-than-average-RX8 pickup. Now I'm worried this new computer they'll give me will be stuck with that "recall flash" which will make my engine lag and bog down in a fruitless attempt to save a cat convertor I don't have, or worse, get the magic "135-whp mod." Are my concerns well-founded, or do I have nothing to worry about? Who's happy with the recall flash? Is there any way to get back the flash I had?

What makes you think the recall flash are *slower* than the earlier ones?

Many people found new flashes (especially after the recent recall flash) have better power.

but most important, why do they need to replace your ECU in the first place?

The dealer is still diagnosing it, but the smart money is on a fried ECU. Well, not completely fried. The engine will still run, but terribly. And only with a tow-start. But they'll probably just replace the damn thing than repair it.

Just read a lot of complaints about the recall flash, that's all.

you're a lot better off with the newer flash. It injects more oil, which may save your engine from needing to be replaced down the road. The longer you sit on the old flash, the greater the chance you might have issues.
