New brake rotors Surface Film - Clean off?

So quick question. Installing new brake rotors, and they have this surface film, kinda tacky, probably a sealant against rust until they are put on. I assume I need to clean it off first?

Probably a stupid question...

already cleaned and installed. Cleaning up the tools and such now. Make sure they work, and then tonight go out to the highway and bed them in.

Not really sure actually. I bought them from another member over a year ago who wrecked his 8 before he could put them on. I jumped on the deal figured I would use them at some point. They look OEM, though slightly thicker (maybe), and cadium plated. I thought they were OEM at that point, but comparing with the ones I took off, they look thicker than rotor wear might account for.

Funny you should mention smoke. I shut off my 8 cold (intentionally, I was working on other stuff and wanted it to stay cold, trusted my fairly new ignition to avoid flooding), but after sitting for 7 hours with the excess fuel, the smoke cloud I generate had a neighbor running over asking if she needed to call the fire department, then she was nearly crying when she though my engine was fried. A bit of a language barrier. Took me a bit to calm her down.

I got video of it, but can't upload it till tomorrow.

Everything is snug and working successfully, just got bedding to do now. Got to find a stretch of highway empty enough that no one will call the cops on me when they see me acting weird....
