My heat is...crazy...

So now that it's getting cold ive had to start using the heat for the first time. now i know as with any car it takes awhile to get the heat to actually pump out hot air. but mine seems to take very long. sometimes i'll be driving for twenty minutes and it will never heat up. but the weirder part. is that if it is working. and i swith on the defroster, then back to heat, and set everything back to how it was. sometimes it will start blowing out cold air. no matter what i do it wont go back to heat. any ideas?

what nyc is trying to say is that it's not a new issue.. search and you'll find some things to look for to resolve the issue.

try to turn the temp **** all the way to the right and hold it there as far as you can get it to go without breaking the ****.. Itll probably get hot.

Then try turning the temp **** while looking under the dash for a plastic actuator with a metal rod. It should move changing the temp as you do it, if its moving eratic..you have to get a piece replaced behind the heater control ****. I got mine done at the dealer in about 25 minutes under warranty.
