Moving to Europe

All,
I'm moving to Germany, and was wondering if any of you know about how the leaded gas and different gas pump nozzles will affect my car? How about where I can get a new inlet for the gas tank filler?

US car in Europe

Hi,

FYI, you don't need to do any changes to your car what so ever to be able to run it here in Europe.
We have several Rx-7 from US here, and you can fill it up like any other here at the pump.
Germany : 91 - 95 - 98 oct fuel UNLEADED
Belgium - Netherlands - France - Spain - Engeland (UK) - ... :
95 - 98 oct fuel UNLEADED

Once you have settled in here in Europe (Germany), maybe you could get back in touch and we could meet to have a chat about the 8. (US versus EURO spec)

Good luck !

Ben

Live in germany

I have been stationed in Germany for about 3 years now and just had my RX-8 shipped over here. Do you know if I can take my 8 to a German dealership to get warranty repairs done? Also I have noticed that I have been getting worse gas mileage (under normal driving conditions) than I was when I was driving in Va. I currently live in Giessen.

Holy crap... is/was it actually cheaper to ship your '8 than sell it and buy another one? I could understand if you modded it alot and wouldn't get the investment back, but if it were stock...?

No changes are needed regarding the fuel - the 95 RON is pretty much like the 91 R+M in the US.
You may have to change the headlights though - seeing that in Europe the light pattern is typically different - asymmetric vs. symmetric in the US. This means a headlight swap - but then you may be able to sell your headlights on eBay or keep it in case you ever move back to the US.
To answer the question of selling in the US and buying in Europe - the car prices in the US are much cheaper than in Europe, so unless you get murdered by duties (which is a possibility), it might be very well worth shipping the car over.
I know that should I move back home, I'll definitely take at least one (if not two) cars with me.

Im in Europe too, the UK.
Whatever you do, when you get over germany go to shell garages and put optimax in your tank. best petrol around. As for the headlights... the Euro 8's have auto leveling headlights, if this is the case for US models surely the main dealer could alter them in some way from the ecu???

US rx8s have auto leveling, and passenger side (right) is set slightly higher than the driverside (left). looks somethign like this...

if he's in the military, they will pay to ship it. i had a friend that was stationed in germany a few years back, and they paid to ship his car over, but not his wife's car. so taht one they sold and bought a new car when they got over there.
