420's are puller fans. 440's are pusher fans. I went with 490's.

You can reverse them for push or pull IIRC from the instructions. You just flip the blade and swap the fan wires. the model numbers of the fans are a PIA, everyone has them listed all F'd up.

Does anyone know what the OEM fans CFM rating is compared to the FAL fans?
Would be interesting to know how much more air is being pulled through with these FAL fans.
Thanks

Don't really see a fan upgrade as necessary, unless you are overheating in traffic ......................

One of mine died, so I saw the need.

9k, I wasn't sure if yours were reverseable since I don't have them. The flexalite website only stated the 490's as able to do so.

MM stated the oem fans pump out 2800ish cfms. Altho I find that hard to believe.

Yeah I think the claim about the OEM fans flow is BS. I tried to find actual data on that and I could not. As you know, once you install these you realize they flow way more than the OEM setup does. It is the best cooling mod I have made.

It's not that the factory fans are crappy, it's about cool down time and these cool the engine down faster than the OEM setup does. Also, when you have a thicker core radiator, you need more powa from the fans to pull air thru. The factory rad is very thin, which is good but the fans are designed with that in mind, not a thicker core dual pass unit. I would also say that replacing the fans is not completely necessary but mine had 120,000+ miles on then and were not working as they should. The S2's have a more powerful setup but the OEM fan shroud setup is expensive.

Your right about oem being expensive. Cheapest I could find them was right over $500 new. I paid $350 for the FALs

In the set up shown by the op I would say pusher fans. Puller fans would put the heated air from the condenser into the nose.

For the setup shown in the photos, I have used the fans in pusher mode. They are a reversible type fan and can be setup as either pusher or puller.
So they use a little of the incoming cool air to push through the air condenser and out under the car.

Pusher vs Puller only dictates which side of the radiator to mount the fans.

Puller, inside the engine bay/Stock
Pusher, outside the engine bay

Would changing the orientation of the condensor/radiator 90 degrees so hot air flows down and not into the engine bay be beneficial?

I'm sure it would have a benefit, but would not be an easy thing to do in an RX8. Might be worth giving it a go though.

Is there clearance to turn it and pull it forward and fab some brackets? or would you need to go ape **** with a sawzall?

I would think you would have to have a custom radiator made, as well as fab up brackets to make it fit, and then you would have to deal with the A/C condenser as well - ie new A/C lines and possibly a custom condenser. Definitely a big job, but it could be done.

Too tall even at a 45 degree angle?

Its already at a 45 degree angle, what exactly are you asking?

Its to tall to mount at a 90

Yes I know it's at 45 degrees. What I'm saying is why would it be too tall or need a custom radiator if all you do is rotate it on its horizontal axis so that it is in an upward angle and not a downward angle like it is stock.

I know thats how the 2000 vette's rad is mounted...

I'm a little confused on how this is a better setup than our current one... (Isn't it the same set up? Just flopped?)

In the current setup the engine bay is blasted with hot air after it passes the radiator. Could help to direct it downward and not so much into the bay. Might help with intake temperatures....might
