I doubt that oil is the problem, or the solution.
when to the dealership today, and had them run a test on my pcm. It came up with misfires in both rotors "cylinders as the test said". I had heard to replace the coils and so I suggested it. They did it without really arguing, under warranty. I hope this fixes it.
so to all of you have taken your car to the dealership and they didn't run a test on the codes or nothing, this problem of a sound above 6k, I almost guarantee you, that it is a MISFIRE!!!

Well my wife took her 8 in to Mazda yesterday. They gave her a POS 626 that smells like "wet-dogs." They didn't tell her what part they are replacing but she picks it up tomorrow. When she comes back with the service order papers, I'll post them up.

MY WIFE HAS LOST HER MARBLES! So, my wife got her car back today and we revved it to redline. No more marbles! My scanner is acting up, so I'll just post what is on the service order:
"Job#1 20maz02 Cooling system--Cust. states at extreme high rev hear a girrgeling noise from right side dash. sop. S.O.P. from Brett at Mazda to fix issue. Installed valve as per Mazda, rechecked. Ok now."
Basically, that's all the recipt says. If you have any questions you can call the Service Department at Putnam Mazda (Burlingame, California) at 650-347-4800 and ask them what the "valve" they installed is. Just don't tell them I sent ya!
See...all it took was a 5-foot-nothing asian woman to get Mazda to make a fix for the problem that has been plaguing us for months, some for years! When I b!tched and moaned, I just got, "then don't rev that high..."

That is great. My engine is making a rattling noise, almost sounds like engine knock, but mine does it between 3K and 5K RPM, not at the higher end of the RPM band. Mine is an AT, so that may be the difference. I had to take my car to the dealer yesterday because of the A/C unit (long story) and I got the tech to listen to the noise. He called the Mazda "hotline" and they told him that is an "air valve" on the side of the engine that is making the noise and that they are currently working on a fix for it.
Sounds to me like the same thing they replaced on your car. I guess I need to inform my dealer that the fix is available.
Good work!

My dealership has had my car for almost 2 weeks total, trying to fix it... I had mentioned something to them about the valve. They shrugged it off, and said find out what valve exactly... Oh, and If you show a dealership the sound. They can't deny it. They might have the car for a few days and then say can't replicated it but just go in and show it to them. Anyways, when and if I get mine fixed I will let you know. And maybe soon I will post a printout of my misfire / pcm readout.

Alright folks this is probably one of my last posts on this topic, hopefully. This "valve" I don't think is really a valve at all. The sound IS related to bubbles in the heater system or heater core, I will find out when I get the car back. Also I will find out if this cures it for good. I will post the form when I get it. But from what I understand it is a bad "orifice", which is what they said, or vent in the heater. It took me many times of talking and calling to get something to happen, GL to you all! I will post a copy when and if my car gets fixed.

Got mine fixed. I gave up on the dealer(s). After two years of dealing with this, I did manage to corner the problem. Took it to RX7 Heaven here in Memphis. Told them all I could about it, and I was right. There were several coolant leaks, which lead to an under presured system or a system that keep building air pockets. Most of the leaks where from the line going through the TB and Thermostat housing.
The DEALERSHIP will not be of use unless you have a CEL, period! End of story.
When I did the TB bypass a while back, no coolant came out. That should be a clue for some of you, maybe.
Also, over the past two years I had several issue's: Bad Coils & Coolant leaks. Together, they made it very interesting to nail down. Did I say the DEALERSHIP did not help in any kind of way.

You get a life dude. Not every abnormal sound comes from the engine. If you had actually read the thread, you would see that people aren't scared of engine failure.
I don't have the marbles but I test drove one that had it, and it is annoying.

MMmm, Still think its Carbon Build up and or fowled spark plugs..
I bet the dealer replaced the spark plugs...I think Mazda (and NGK) are really stretching the mileage out of these plugs..

Okay, so I have had coils replaced, this valve put in, and I still have the sound. Dealerships might not be able to fix it at this point, but the more people that complain, the more likely the dealerships/mazda will have to fix it. The second time I took my car in for this noise a MNA tech came in and like I stated... was not fixed still. 3rd time a Lemon?
I think turbine is right on this one... at least this is what it seems like to me. The dealership has been no help so far.

This is crappy. I am having a similar problem. No specific RPM range. Doesnt do it all the time. Some days the car drives wonderful, but other days it seems like it just doenst want to go anywhere. Seems like temp. doesnt matter but it def. does it more on hot days. Ill pull out and accelerate all the way threw first gear. (First gear is usually ok) I get into 2nd and try to accelerate all the way through and i get the marbles and the car starts to hesitate like it doesnt want to move. Then goes a little, and then hesitates again. Had it at Mazda on several occasions and they continuously tell me that its fine. Coolant has been low twice now and i have to fill it back up which tends to be very temporary fix. If i had to guess id say i had a leak somewhere but idk....I dont believe gas is an issue. Ive ran nothing but 93 in the car and havent had the problem until maybe like 6 months ago.idk what to do anymore. The hesitation is rediculous, seems like there is no tourque at all. Have had the plugs replaced fairly recently, also tended to be a temp. fix but the problem came back. Had the injectors cleaned whiched made the car better, but again only temporary. Just seems like something is holding the motor back but i cant figure out what. Someone please help. Thanx for your time.

Well i know that i have a coolant leak somewhere for starters. Theres no signs of it on my garage floor so where ever its leaking out of its burning up before it has a chance to hit the ground which leads me to believe that its somewhere near that motor(obviously). The motor itself feels fine its just hesitating and makeing an odd (marbles) sound when i try and get on it hard. Could it be when im on it hard the coolant is leakin somewhere at that point? I just put a K&N short ram on last night and the sound has become much louder out of the drivers side of the vehicle. Might possibly be a spark issue or a fuel issue but my plugs are fairly new and like i said there have been no signs of any kind of leak. Any thoughts?
