Some coils have lasted 100k or more so don't woory about the BS online.

Just buy a set and have them as back up. You will know when you need them.

hi

My coils went a few months ago, I blamed it on letting the car sit for a week, cause I was fitting mud flaps/strakes and had dropped the screws/fixer of a strake into the bottom of the front passenger wing. I also had great probs getting the old screws out of the rubber sill guard as the lovely rainy weather had rusted them solid. Good old impact wrench/pliers did the trick coupled in with some WD40/bloody fingers.

Anyway dunno if leaving these cars sitting around is good for them, ie sparkies get affected and cause misfires leading to coils burning out. All 3 went going to work, engine sounded terrible a loud burpppppp, with afty mkt exhaust made it even worse.

So I got towed to mechanic, ordered new coils at £77 each rip off I know, new leads and sparkies at £113 all together £20 to fit.
But car was like new after, then a few days later was missing/backfire, rotary mechanic said pretty normal for new plugs to backfire. Like bogging down for a few seconds between 4000rpm and 6-7000 rpm, then power kick back in.

I ran a few tanks of the 97 octane BP petrol through it as well as CATAClean which helps clean engine/injectors and the CAT. Then when driving on the last of my 2nd tank of super unleaded the bogging down was gone. I only drive the car twice a week now as I have my az3 too, but when I red line there is no more delay, touch wood, donk donk.

I am at 73000, my coils were supposed to have been replaced at about 60000, bought car at 61800, so I got about 11000 miles on mine? I replaced mine at about 72600 odd, had changed the oil at 71216 lol as always remember that number.

Hopefully I will get nearer the 20000 miles minimum next time, but to answer some of your bogging down questions, this is what happened to me, oh and my CAT developed a fault at 63000 threw a CEL and I had to get it replaced.
So after changing your coils, try running a few tanks of super unleaded through, or that Shell optimax, cleaning petrol to give everything a good clean out, and see if that will perk things up.

I have a scangauge 2 and it tells me I am getting between 25-26.5 MPG. I occasionally glance at the measurement while driving as its near the speedo and I get about 18-20 in the City, if the road is clear then at 30mph in 5th I get 31-33mpg. I do 80/20% Motorway/City driving, so at 70mph I return 24-25mpg. It is also a good idea to use city back roads that dont have loads of traffic lights and stop/start as when I used a road which has less people crossing it/businesses on it, the fuel return was better. I am now sitting 3 marks above the half tank mark at 132miles, so I am aiming for 160 miles when I hit the half way mark lol. I redline 2 times a day once to work an once back. Dunno if ecu is running the car lean but when I get to 2 ticks below the quarter gauge mark it usually takes 49-50 litres to fill up, which leaves me roughly 11 litres of reserve and miles are 270-280 at this point, so I reckon 300-320 on a full tank. Not bad eh.

Just wondering if higher the mileage better the MPG, I am in the UK and use the 5/30 engine oil, not sure of what flash I have, car is running ok so quite pleased with fuel consumption as it is a rotary after all.

hmm...so my last trip before I was tuned well..but cruise tune was pretty much where it's going to be at. My average was 19 on the interstate with all hard take off's and some down shiftings..boosting to 10psi so mileage drops bad when getting on it. I know this much when doing track use or just constant playing I average 9- 12 mpg at 14psi. With my new soon to be rx7 5 speed I'm hoping to get 20's or better for my 50/50 for my city/highway
