Question Mazda Recall

Remote control will no longer open the trunk, neither will the one in the glove box or the one by the drivers side.It also triggers the check engine light.Local dealer said there is a recall but there is no fix at this time. You can disconnect the battery to clear the codes and wait 30 sec. after you turn off the car before you arm the alarm.

Errrh... The "one in the glove box" is actually a switch that determines whether the remote or dashboard buttons should be allowed to open the trunk. Purpose is the valet key, which will no open glove box or trunk. With the switch off, and the glovebox (and through feed thingy) locked, the valet can't open the trunk.

Try press the glove button one more time, and then see if your remote and dash button won't access the trunk.

First reported "problem" of this sort, I doubt there is a recall

another case of ignoring the owners manual, like elak says the one in the glove box only disables the trunk.

The button to open the trunk is actually near the latch for opening the hood (you push the button to open the trunk, the hood opens by pulling the lever next to it). It will be deactivated if the on/off switch in the glovebox is set to disable remote trunk opening (as will the key button on your keychain)

See page 3-12 of your owners manual.

I can understand an owner missing this in the owner's manual, BUT, there is no excuse for the dealer to miss this one.

I apologize for not saving the posts I read a few months ago about the airbag recall, but I didn't then and I can't find them now. Please refresh me as to the problems some people have experienced regarding the dealer breaking the glove box and the need to give the dealer the master key. Having had a totally trouble-free automatic since December, I believe the only recall that I need to be concerned with is the airbag one. Right? Thank you in advance.

I just had this happen to me on Sunday. Noticed the trunk wouldn't open up with the buttons, seemingly after I took it to Firestone to put new tires on it. Trust me, after spendin a grand on tires, I was a little hacked off to find my trunk release no longer worked. Instead of hittin the manual, I checked the forums (more info here anyway!). Sure enough, I saw this and checked that button in the glovebox. That was it. Way to be, forums! haha Next time I'll have to babysit the Firestone guys and make sure they don't fiddle w/ stuff. =)

even if this was a real issue, why would there be a RECALL for it?
