Nothing amazing about it. One can stuff more a/f into the chamber without limit. One cannot scavange more exhaust out than there is already inside. ~10% gain at most unless the stock system is really bad.

We ran high enough that it wasn't a worry, and we were still firing the chambers even with the throttle shut anyway, just takes a bit of work with the injection angles and things to get enough mixture in there to oil it without being too rich to burn.

True, but what's left inside isn't zero, and when your only chasing a few percent improvments here and there on this engine anyway, why leave that 1-2% extra on the table?
Either way, it still works....

I won't argue with that statement. As long as ppl understand that possible gains here are rather minimal, especially considering the cost, going after that little bit extra can be fun.

What I want the most from the Star kit is the fuel trim ****. Lean out the mixture while crusing on the highway, install a couple of EGT gauges to keep an eye on the temps, and it would be just like flying an airplane. With better fuel economy.

The word filter here is about as strict as our corporate e-mail filter. I was referring to a little dial that turns things up and down. Starts with a k.

thanks for that info Phillip. I bet that is a little tricky.
Bottom line is-- this engine is tougher than many people think.

Some interesting updates for the now PRO MAZDA Series for 2013..
Engines by speed source only as we know.

A few 'technical' updates over 2012, don't know if it has been added here before.

Happy they finally agreed with me about oil weight for rotaries..(at least I have been consistent ''0W30 won't cut it'').....j/k

The document I got this from (dated Feb, 2013) is clearly shown as confidential with many warnings on disclosure so I will not post the doc here.

http://www.starmazda.com/competitors/resources.htm

Only use OEM RX-8 Air Filter, no other brands permitted and all the issues we have talked about before concerning dirt in intake/engines confirmed.
The OEM Air Filter under testing was the best available and outperformed all other very well known brands.

0W Engine oil is no longer permitted as it was 'causing problems', only a 5W50 now.

A standard pre-premixed fuel is used for all competitors (@ 1oz oil per gallon).

Apex Seals have changed to a different material as have Apex Seal Springs (not OEM AFAIK).

Plus a few other regulatory issues about fuel and engine timing and engine temps.

interesting read ASH

Speedsource didn't say anything about aftermarket paper filters, they just said stock Mazda filter filters best compared to Green and K&N, which is true. and there is no way Speedsource will test other paper filters, cuz it will make people think they sponsored or paid Speedsource to do that.

0w30 might work ok for a street car to be honest, but I'm the kind of guy that use 20w50 in NYC winter, and now I can just ignored all the BS about omg oil pressure/flow yada yada.

but HEY next thing u know, u gonna see some Mazda knows best you know nothing ***** gonna come out and say 5w20 FTMFW ! ... LOL

as for ceramic seals, it is the ultimate apex seal for Rotary engine, I feel great about using it on my FC. ahh soon I might have to get a set for FD or another 8 it does cost an arm and leg but I think it's worth it.

They're easily using twice the amount of premix as dailies.

Guess its time I try 20/50 (doubtful I can easily source 5/50).

I'd be worried about intake contaminants if I had anything remotely close to a stock setup. I knew that kn filter I had back in the day was crap. Guessing the killer here is fine particles such as dust.

Everything works in fantasy land. Like having a magical exhaust system that generates enough energy to pull a vacuum on a closed, no-overlap, small volume chamber just at the moment when the exhuast port closes. Except the exhaust port area just at that moment is so incredibly small as to make flow non-existent. So the magical exhaust system is so mighty that it both pulls and holds a vacuum on the closed chamber for the whole latter half of of rotor rotation past the port.

Yes, anything is possible in fantasy land ...

this is why the PFM Renesis race engine is fitted with a wild *** long tube ZOMG header rather than just a get it out quick short and simple design ....
