Improve FM reception

I've noticed that FM reception in my car seems to be getting worst and a lot more staticy. I've tried googling and searching but is there a way to improve with a simple mod??

I can think of a way.

A couple. You can replace the ANT that exists in the car's rear winshield (yes it's there. Ever notice that when you run the rear windshield defroster, the radio completely washes out? That's because the ANT is right next to the defroster coils, which get all hot due to current... that current produces electromagnetic fields in close proximity to the radio ant, which creats buttloads of destructive interference). Just find a generic car ant , drill a whole into your trunk or hood or there abouts, and reconnect the ant line from the head unit to the new ant. Don't want to look like a jackass toting a tree around?

Speaking of that interference, your radio might be all static because you have a device in the car you have added that is destructive to your FM signal. Do you have a smartphone? That can do it. Turn it off in the car to check. Did you add a computer near the ANT? Did you add a charger? Any device that either produces large amounts of current or electromagnetic fields (think radio or cell or microwaves) in close proximity to ANY part of your radio system might be causing the static. Just take out any devices you have added to the car one by one and see if that improves the problem.

High tech fix:
Try finding an ANT that you can mount in the front of the car. You'll need a signal combiner unit and you'll need to splice the head unit line to read both your rear ant and your front one. BUT if you can get all of that and get it to work, it'll basically turn your car into a GIANT ANT because you'll have spaced out two FM ANTs approximately 1.8 m apart; the approximate distance between FM wave propagation. That should clear up the radio ALOT.

Now this is all theory; I'm just an electrical engineer; I have no idea where you can buy these things or do them.

Thanks much appreciated. I was thinking of running something and putting in a sharkfin. Or maybe just getting Sirius radio or something. Hmmm...
