To keep this simple:
Pre-mix on a pre 2009 = Good
synthetic personal choice, I wouldn't switch to synthetic on a high mileage rx-8 but running it from the start ok.

Idemitsu Pre-mix and any high quality 5w-30. Idemitsu is hard to find in stores but there are online resources.

I spoke to a rotary shop in Dallas and they dont recommend to premix and they run 10w-30 full synthetic in all their cars including racers. They said the engine lubricates itself well enough.

Hey i'm the new guy just got my 2005AT 8 in sept. 09. all the posts about premix were conflicting so I thought I would ask the "experts?" maybe right or wrong. So why should we premix then?

You should premix a "series I" (2008 and prior) since the oil metering doesn't adequately lubricate the rotor apex seals and can therefore lead to loss of compression over time. MSP16 ECU flash did increase the oil metering output (as does a CobbAP MM tune), but the series I has only 2 oil injectors, whereas the series II has three.

Idemitsu added per tankful of gas, 4-8 oz depending on driving style and performance mod's.

5w-30 Castrol GTX in my cooler clime.
