How hard would it be to install an exhaust system for a noob to exhaust?

When I did it by myself, I used a jack to support the muffler. When I did Leshil's, I had him hold up the one side of the muffler after I released it from the hangers as I was taking out the other side. Then lastly, I pulled the last hanger bar (or whatever you call it) out the rubber hanger that supports the pipe between the muffler and cat. Then reverse for install.
thanks alot man. is there any way to unbolt the muffler from the oem midpipe and and leave the muffler on. (so it looks like i have a muffler but its really not used)???
thanks unforgiven : )

Technically, yes. But, the pipe that goes from the muffler to the cat is usually pinched pretty tight (it actually pinches the medal piping on the muffler and pipe together) with a U-clamp and is usually rusted since it is bare metal, so it is hard to get the two separated. Aftermarket catbacks bolt the muffler to the pipe (at least the three I have installed were), so there is no U-clamp to pinch the metal. So if you wanted to do that, an after market catback would be the easiest unless you just sawzaw the pipe on the OEM muffler.

No problem bro. Taking off the muffler is a biotch the first time you do it, but then you get the hang of it so it is easier each time there after. The second exhaust I also did by myself and it took me only 45 minutes to take off the OEM and install the RB catback. Of course it was a little easier because it was an R3 so there were no shrouds to remove and nothing was rusted.

As for separating the OEM muffler from it's pipe, good luck!!

Are you referring to the midpipe? If so, then yes. I took off my cat and installed a gutted supercat. It is fairly easy. You have to unbolt the cross member that runs perpendicular under the midpipe and then unbolt the three bolts that attach the midpipe to the headers. I jacked up the passenger side of the car and put jack stands under it to access the pipe.

I would recommend you first remove the black plastic exhaust surrounds (aka rear bumper guards). Easy one screw and plastic tabs affixed. Precludes any potential for damage and at ~$50 ea. for a surround good insurance.

WD-40, 2 flat heads <- Hangers

WD-40 and 12mm and 14mm sockets for the exhaust bolts. I got a racheting torque wrench, makes getting the hard to reach exhaust bolts easy to get out.

IMO, i'd take your time and plan for set backs. I had to deal with siezed rusted bolts...talk about your set back.

On more thing. For god's sake, take your time! I can't tell you how many times I stripped bolts because I was careless. If you take your time, you'll be fine.

Also, +1 for an extra set of hands.

If you doing this by yourself(as I did), then you almost have to take these off to give you just a little more room to operate!
Just don't break the tabs.....be careful.

^ Trying to not break the tabs was the hardest part. On mine, I broke quite a few getting the shrouds out. It was an 04 so I think the tabs were a little brittle from age. When I took off Leshil's shrouds on his 07, I didn't even break one.

I bent/broke one tab, but JB Weld to the rescue. "Tab A into slot B."

Actually I changed my exhaust out when the car was almost brand new, so no issues with tabs, rust, or bolts. Only issue I had was slightly with the hangers until I figured that out.
