How does RX8 reverse gear sensor work?

I'm trying to hook up RX7 reverse gear sensor to RX8 ECU.. before I proceed, I need to know what sort of signal RX8 reverse gear sensor generate with reverse gear selection..

can this be done?

The reverse switch is based off of resistance...When in reverse there's resistance measured through the switch.

Reverse and neutral switches are just spring-loaded on-off devices. There is a detent/cutout on a shaft or lever in the switch location and the sensor is either in the detent or it's not and this indicates whether the trans is in neutral/reverse or its not
