how do I do my own compression check

I am about to add a FI system and would like to check my compression. what are the steps that i need to take in order to get the closest to actual compression with a manual compression tester. which plug holes do i use and whats the best way to get my rpm readings.

or does anyone have a TR-01 I can borrow

I am pretty sure you do it up against the maint ports on the pass. side of the engine. As for doing it without something like a TR-01 I don't know....this might help though.
