Little different hard start issue...

2004 GT w/MT.

Starts and runs very well. 105K miles. Last compression check from dealer was within spec.

What is strange, is when doing a warm start, the engine cranks and cranks without firing until I release the key. The moment I release the key, it kicks over and lights right up. On the first try, every time. Let it turn for a sec, release the key, fire right up.

It almost seems like there isn't sufficient electrical power to both turn the starter and fire the engine. But that doesn't make a lot of sense.

Anyone else seen this type of behavior?

Need more info, when was the last time you replace your ignition components? wires, plugs, and coils.
check the battery terminals and make sure they are nice and tight
check the alternator
how is the life of the catalytic converter does your car have a cat?

What is very weird. Old sparkplugs and failing coils?

Measure the current that your starter is pulling and see if its sufficient.

Ignition components (all) - 1 year.
Cat - assume original (verified one is present)
Battery looks good - tight and clean.

Alternator test was in the "normal" range but on the low side. Was waiting to drop the dollars.

We see what the starter draw is.

Thanks.

Another thing to check is the wires on the starter make sure they are tight and not corroded.
