Exclamation Help replacing roof airbag

it's an 09 rx8 friend hit a curb so hard it deployed the passenger side airbag
no cosmetic damage wutsoever..option was go with a $1k deductible or just buy the parts and replace it..has anyone ever replaced one? is it pretty easy and straight forward im pretty good with cars but havent got a chance to go check it out yet so thought id ask..any tips or tricks other than disconnecting the battery prior and other than replacing the bag and getting the light reset does anything else have to get replaced or reset? thanks in advance

Did the seatbelt pretensioner fire off as well? If it did you'll need that as well. You only said the passenger air bag so I assume the side air bag did not go off too.

Yes, just take the necessary precautions, but just unplug harness & bolt it new one. The code should reset by itself since it is a constantly monitoring system. That should be about it.

*edit* from the title is sound like your side curtain air bag. Which air bag are you doing? It if's the curtain one, it's a bit more work, as in loosen headliner down if memory serves right.

you said to disconnect the battery...make sure you disconnect and wait at least 30 minutes, I'm pretty sure there's a capacitor in there. Also, I'd say replace the control module for the air bag even if it seems like it might not need to be replaced...
