well could be the crankshaft sensor.
it has nothing to do with the pulley.

you need to turn the car to on and pump the brake pedal 20 time until the oil guage sweeps

Turn the key to the on position and quickly tap the brake peddle 20 times,
You should see the oil level needle sweep back and forth once.
This works the Series one RX8's not sure about the Series II

Maybe you damage the Eccentric Shaft Sensor (crank shaft sensor) or the Plate behind the crank pulley during the install.

Have you tried cleaning the sensor?

Read link for details about resetting the memory (NVRAM and KAM)
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=reset+memory

Especially this part:

When/Why should you erase the NVRAM?
Realistically there are only a few times, generally the only times it's really needed is when replacing a motor since you'll be installing a new e-shaft position plate. Sometimes you'll also repair a misfire, yet the misfire code will return even with you not noticing anything, in those cases clearing the NVRAM will sometimes help. Also during PCM replacement it's good to clear it.

I'm thinking that you must have damaged something, maybe the plate is slightly bent now and the ESS is reading it correctly now.
