Help I have a problem with my power steering
#26
i had no problems at all till lunch time today....
the dealer also seemed to think it was due to the harness.
they're calling me now asking about what's hooked up to the pcm (the interceptor-x), they claim their system can't talk to the pcm with it in the way. so they're disconnecting stuff now.

Its such a pain to troubleshoot since it only does it in the mornings after the cars been sitting for 12+ hours so the dealer can only test it once a day. Cars going back to the dealer tomorrow so ill see what happens.

I feel your pain brother. Mine went out today as well, while I was trying to manuever down I-80...at least I wasn't attempting a high speed 90 deg turn! I felt like I was driving a 79 Buick, having to use 2 hand to turn.
I was surprised to find out that there isn't a power steering resevoir.
Anyhow, taking it to the stealership tomorrow...am hoping it'll be a quick fix.

They replaced the harness the first time I took it to them and it didnt fix it. This time they did the rack for sure since my alignment was all out of whack.

This has been going on for weeks. The car was there 3 different times to fix this problem and the first thing they told me they replaced the wiring harness. I never saw the part so no idea if they really replaced it or not. Several weeks passed before I bothered to take it to them again.
The second time I brought the car in was because of a dead alternator after my check battery light came on and everything electrical in the car started shutting down on me. I mentioned the steering problem wasnt fixed and they told me it might be because of a low voltage problem caused by a failing alternator. Made sense at the time.
When that didnt fix it I brought it back and they had the car for 2 days before they called me and told me they would replace the steering rack. They also asked me for my wheel locks and like I said before when I got the car back my alignment was all screwed up. I never bothered to ask them why they didnt align the car but im assuming its because my cars lowered with aftermarket wheels so I took it to a trusted alignment shop to get the work done.
I think they did what they said they did. Ive been there about a dozen times with various other problems and I havent caught them on a lie yet.

guys it happened to me as well, i brought it to my mechanic who happens to be my first cousin,,,, he removed the negative pole for couple of minutes, and put it back.
The electrical steering that we have, restarted ok. Now is ok.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I am beginning to have power steering issues. So far it seems that removing the negative pole on the battery resets the issue which is why I choose to revive this thread.

I'l be swinging by my dealership tomorrow to see if I can get the updated harness.
I'm hoping that fixes things; got a road trip out to AZ planned for next weekend.
