Help deciding how to fix fuel pump issue

So, I have narrowed down my no start (cold or hot) issue to a bad fuel pump. Did so by buying a cheap $10 pump and swapped it into my housing. Now my 8 will start every time. My issue now is that although said $10 pump carries a lifetime warranty its still a $10 pump. So my question is this: How should I go about fixing this? New assembly for $170+ or a new pump swapped into my housing? If new pump, will one for an 09 work? I have found both a kit for the DW200 pump and a kit from highflowfuel.com that comes with either a 265lph pump for $80 http://www.highflowfuel.com/i-23899300-quantum-265lph-intank-fuel-pump-mazda-rx-8-2009-2011.html. Which would yall reccommend?

Many of us run the DW200, but they do sell the less flowy DW100 which should work without any issues. Others use the Walbro 255 and it seems to be just as good.

You don't need to replace the entire housing.

I'm not worried about flow as I will eventually being modding my 8. But, as I am stock NA right now will I see any issues running a pump with a 265 lph output?

The one in the car now only has 60k on it. Will eventually try and find an s2 pump housing to put the new pump in

It won't fit in an S2 housing. Just replace the whole assembly.

In that case I will just replace the stock S1 housing then. Found a seller on ebay that sells brand new housings

Hes even got a 2.5kw starter and a 2.7 kw starter. Hmm, I wonder if I could buy a starter for a standard and swap the nose cones.

You could buy a new S2 full assembly for not much more. The new aftermarket S1 assembly are also S2 assemblies, they just require some mild tweaking to fit and work in an S1. The S2 design is better overall and not just in terms of the fuel pump.

Check it.

Ive read that entire thread. For right now I'm fine with just the upgraded pump as I only paid $65 for it. I will say it was sold as a direct replacement for an 09 and up RX8. But all I need is the pump.

Well I hope it fits, the 09+ pump is quite a bit larger than the S1 pump so there is no way it's going in an S1 housing.

I know the pumps physical dimensions are the same as the stock S1 pump.

Oh well it's an S1 pump then or at least it won't work in an S2 I mean.

One question I have is for those that have upgraded to a Walbro or a DW200. Did you have to melt the pop off valve? If so, what works the best to melt it?

As usual, Charles is right....

I dicked around with filters and Walbro's before finally getting a used Series II assembly - when I cut the old secondary filter open (the big one surrounding the pump) it was SOLID with crud, mostly fine carbon looking powder. (pump brush residue?)

No probs since.

I will eventually get a Series II assembly when I can find a used one. But for now, since I can't find a used one local or on ebay I am going to atleast just put the upgraded pump in the 60K mile assembly I have.

Btw, when you did the Walbro, how did you melt the siphon/pop off valve?
