Help with anti-corrosive coating on replacement OEM brake rotors

I'm replacing my brake rotors with OEM replacement rotors. The rotors were shipped with a thick layer of anti-corrosive coating on them. Looks like a thick silvery paint.

Is it necessary to remove this from the braking surface before installing or can I let the pads scrape the surface clean when bedding them in?

I know that there was also a TSB a while back about this anti-corrosive coating causing the brakes to make a clicking sound under hard cornering.

Any tips on how to remove this coating? I tried paint thinner and carb cleaner but it didn't have much of an effect.

If it were me I'd take some medium grit sandpaper to them and take off the bulk of it, being careful not to go inside of the "swept area". Or you could take it to a shop that machines brake rotors and have them turned just enough to remove the paint.

As far as the clicking -- search for the TSB, I believe the recommendation there was also to sand off the coating where the wheel mates with the hub, although maybe the coating has been reformulated since then. Make sure to follow the new torque specs in the TSB for the lug nuts.

Go to Pep Boys or Autozone and pick up a can of brake cleaner. Spray it on the surface of the rotor and wipe clean. You should always clean that stuff off new rotors prior to installation.
