That was actually pretty fun to read the whole thing. Nice timing for an engine failure.

also, just so everyone knows, I could have done this with no out-of-pocket cost.

But, I have elected to replace a few extra parts. so I'm paying for all the hoses and belts, new motor mounts (I still had the originals, and they have been revised multiple times), and the radiator overflow bottle, and the oil injection lines. I'm paying for 1.5 hours of labor, because there are 11 hoses, and only 3 come out with the engine, so i'm paying for the labor to replace those other 8 hoses.

stuff I'm getting under warranty: engine block and all its contents (rotors, apex seals, etc), flywheel, all gaskets, air conditioner drain/refill, radiator drain/refill, new water pump, new oil pan, probably some other stuff I'm forgetting,

plus all the labor is free to pull the engine and transmission, take everything off the old engine and put in on the new engine, and install the new engine. that's why I'm buying some new parts, because the labor has to be done to pull the parts and put them back on anyway, so I'm getting that labor for free, with the benefit of more new parts. all the parts I'm replacing were the originals, and they now have nearly 5 years of AZ heat on them, plus 90,500 miles.

Wow that isn't bad at all. I thought for sure there would be a catch. I guess a blown engine at around 90k is something I will almost be hoping for.

If I were you, I'd have them clean that "new" motor up a bit...it looks like they just took it out of the junkyard!

That was really cool to look at, thanks

Congratulations too!! Except that you are w/o a car for a couple of weeks

I guess we all hope that our engine goes out at the last minute, or actually lasts 200k

Rotary Crate motors in North America have been remans since the late 80's.

Nothing new. You can't get a "New" motor unless you (or your builder if you are not mechanically inclined) order all the parts new and build it yourself. Of course that puts the price around $6-8K depending on series and model.

i would be fully confident in a reman. if i remember correctly the remans must meet or exceed original build quality standards. i'm just suprised that there are readily available reman renesis engines. i guess its comforting to know that the engines are available easialy

Not if they dont know how to rebuild it in the first place.

dunno about older Rotary, but early Renesis rebuild was total junk. they simply dont know how to put it right.

it was so garbage that its not even funny. Good thing that they changed the company and now its all working well.

thats really great to hear. i'm fairly new to the renenis and am fast tracking towards owning an RX-8. i've owned rotaries for over 10 years and have had 25 RX-7's in that time frame. i've never dealt with a reman that came from a dealership (that prob came from an outsourced company) but i have had good run ins with Atkins Rotary. what company is building the engines now?
