Gear box gone! Helllp!

I have a 2004 Manual 5 speed 192 bhp. (UK/London)

I took the gear box out yesterday and saw there was play (spigot shaft)

Since i need to get a new gear box, i was thinking of getting a 6 speed?

I wanted to know, is it that simple?

I need to know if my properller shaft will fit into the gear box and if the the spigot shaft of the 6 speed gear box will fit into clutch center plate.

Searched for a few clutch kits and there are 5 speed clutch kits and 6 speed clutch kits, so I think i would have to upgrade the clutch kit.

Also, when i took the clutch out, it was a kinda bluish colour underneath =(

I was told its due to over heating or high reving?

I do not over rev stupidly. Sometimes, maybe i put a little more gas in when i am about to pull away. But don't think it would be because of that.

**I am not sure if this is the correct place to post, please do not get offended or what have you, no, this is not a troll thread. One did search, no luck.**

Thank you

49,000 k on the clock.

I'm not sure if putting a 6 speed gear box into my 8 will damage the Engine.

I have had this car for 7 - 8 months.

I'm 20, this is my first car. Most of my time goes on reading about this car, but I have no knowledge about trans and etc...

Some are asking me, how many ports I have, I have no idea
what ports are =( What is it?

Any help, opinions, and advice would be great

The transmission and engine should mate up no problems..the Eccentric shafts are the same.....

You might run into a few problems with getting the clutch to work properly if the clutch release mechanisms are different....Maybe get ASH8 to look up the part #'s at work and see what is different. Likely the fork and the clutch...and possibly the flywheel. Not sure if you will get much help on here..cause most of us have USDM cars...and there is no 5 speed available.

If the transmissions are different lengths..you might need the drive shaft and powerplant frame as well

If you can find parts off a wreck for a decent price you should be able to figure it out

Thanks very much. How many ports do you have on your car?
Are there a few or just 1 term when said port?

I have 4 spark plugs.

What are the different ports on the 8?

induction, exhaust, gear box?

The "low power" engine in some areas is the same engine as the 04-05 automatics in North America...the intake of the engine has 4 ports..or intake paths...and the high power engines have 6 intake ports

I think in 06 they dropped the 4 port engines and made them all 6 port

you have a 4 port engine. Ports refers to the number of intake tracks. dan's right we need to Ash to look at the part numbers unless Team or someone else knows.

Rebuild it and do a proper clutch job. I like 5 speed myself, old school. Are the clutch kit part numbers diff? As far as your clutch color well how many times has it been replaced it's a wear item lol. If a worn one is driven on then yea it heat up and cook stuff.

OK, Been in contact with OP..saad84

Yes, a gearbox assembly the 6 speed will fit (including fork release bearing etc)...and prop shaft is the same.

See no problems provided it is replaced as a complete unit with new clutch assy.

You're asking a question in an 11 year old thread..... You're not likely to get an answer unfortunately. Another victim of infinite scroll I assume.
