i think the average usage I have seen people recommend is 400:1, so I may add a little more per tank

I went to Autozone today and I was not able to find the word '2-stroke' on any of the motor oil. Am I just not looking hard enough or they just don't write that on the bottle? Can someone give me a suggestion? It would be nice to have a picture..

Or go to a motorcycle powersports store, and they'll have several choices.

Look for 2TC specs.

2-stroke or 2-cycle, which are usually located near the motor oil and transmission fluid area. Some times they like to throw them on a random rack that has nothing to do with 2-stroke oils. Ask the desk. All Autozones should sell TCW-3.

Cool I got the Volvoline 2 cycle TCW3 oil. The 2-cycle oil were sitting in a small corner, and there were really only like 4 choices. Oh well but I found it. I hope my 8 will like it at the next fuel up. The recently replaced engine only has 5k miles on it, so I'm gonna premix from now on.

I wonder if you can just turn off the OMP and only premix??? You don't even need the SOHN adapter?

You can... But your car will go into 'limp-mode'

Localized oil injection helps preventing seal chatter and stuff like that. It's better to retain it

My first premix was with Valvoline, don't be surprised if the fumes out of your exhaust start to smell rotten, which is a symptom to a failing catalytic converter, it's just how it burns. I finished the Valvoline bottle then switched to Pennzoil and no rotten smell since.

Oh wow I have a case of Idemitsu on order. Hopefully the cat will last through this Volveline bottle..

This 2 stroke oil does look pretty intense...it's all dark and smells ugly. I also found out that it eats the paint on the bottle.

While undertaking development work on the RX-8 Renesis engine for SCCA T2/T3 use, we decided to introduce extra oil into the fuel to monitor the effect. To our surprise, this additional oil increased power! Further dyno testing found that by adding 10 oz. of Royal Purple 2-Stroke Oil to 6 gallons of fuel, we gained an average of 1.7 HP from 2000-9000 RPM, along with an increase in peak power of 4 HP. We validated this increase by changing back to a "non-oiled" fuel - and the power returned to the previous level. Later, we tried the same test with another brand of synthetic oil with nearly the same results.

For racing applications, the addition of a high quality synthetic oil increases power and most certainly decreases wear. The only negatives are the cost of the oil and an increase in the tendency to foul the spark plugs. (Note: We have not performed these tests on non-RX-8 engines yet, these results are unknown.)

Not surprised at all, I have been saying this for years that a Pre-Mix (good quality) will not only help to protect Apex, Side Seal and all surface wear but will also improve compressions and therefore add or at least maintain HP...and improve fuel economy.

I use Amsoil Saber Pro, yes it is expensive but IMO one of the better 2 stroke oils.

I am even using it in the gas on my brand new 2011 MX-5 SE PRHT at 2 mils per 1 Litre of gas.
Half the rate of my RX-8.

Obviously Racing Beats ratio is way more than needed for everyday use and at that level WILL foul Spark Plugs..

ALL GOOD...

+1...

I use Idemitsu, its one of the more expensive oils but its worth the added safety/protection.

As far as spark plugs being fouled just get some carb cleaner and a brush, clean those puppies off. Just be easy with them...

Ok, I finally got my case of Idemitsu premix, a couple 8oz small bottles and an empty tank. I got to the gas pump, emptied 1 8oz bottle and filled up with 93.

Upon starting the car, I'm greeted with a CEL which was triggered by the following code:

I've searched this thread for that fault code and came up with nothing.

This is on an 04' w/ 40k miles. Any ideas? Do I really need a secondary O2 sensor already?

Yes it is entirely possible you need a new Rear O2 sensor.
I've had to change mine, and there are plenty of threads out there by others who have had to do the same.

Good news is the Rear O2 sensor does nothing other than monitor catalytic efficiency.
Bad news is you need a new sensor ... might as well check the cat while you are at it...

And .... other than the fact that this happened at the same time you added premix .... which I believe only to be coincidence ... you should end the thread jack and take this issue to the trouble shooting section for further discussion.

Finally found a store down here that is selling Lucas semi synthetic in a quart size!

This is my favorite store bought premix, I personally think it smells the best and doesn't smoke. Since I am essentially catless smell and smoke matter a great deal to me.

Today I started premixing, and I swear even the first 10-15 mins after filling up I noticed a difference in smoothness of the engine. I have been driving this car nearly every day for the past year so I really don't think its me imagining things, I know how the car felt before. Its not a massive difference, but you can definitely tell.

I'm just so surprised it could make such a difference, wish I would have started doing this the day I bought the car.

It just kinda blows my mind that such a small thing can make a difference. When I left the gas station after premixing I started to notice and really couldn't believe it would make such a difference. I just need to get some idemitsu premix and then I will feel better, using pennzoil marine synthetic right now.

Its kind of like the throttlebody mod where you remove the tubes that flow coolant through it, that made a big difference for me on really hot days even though you would not think it had much of an effect.
