Hey Gang!!

Here is the situation:

I went to start my car this morning, it's -24 below. The car started no problem. However when I took my foot off the clutch it remained engaged. It seemed to be frozen or something. Everytime I took my foot off the clutch the car would role forward and stall. Finally after about 30 minutes it worked fine and I was able to drive away.

Anyone have an ideas why this may have happened or suggestions on how it can be prevented. This has never happened to me before.

 

Can you clarify these two comments because they seem contradictory. Either you released the clutch pedal and the clutch remained disengaged or you released the clutch pedal and the car would roll forward and stall. If it's the latter then it sounds like you didn't rev it enough.

Hmm... Some components, like brake pads and clutch friction material, are semi-metallic and stick BADLY in the cold. Alot of us have run into the sticking e-brake issue on really cold mornings, for example. The material is probably just very, very cold and thus leaving no room for error... Your engine warming up should take care of this problem, though.

In neutral? Because of the temperature, the gear oil was probably the consistency of uh... frozen molasses. Anyway, the drag the gears and shafts in the gearbox swimming in this oil imposes upon the engine, combined with the low torque of the engine at low RPM could cause it to stall.

I know at low (but not quite that low) temperatures, my engine will slow down and the car will lurch forward as I let out the clutch pedal in neutral. Is that it maybe?
